Reba McEntire to Return to 'The Voice' This Fall

Reba McEntire is returning to The Voice! The 70-year-old served as a coach for three seasons, from Season 24 to 26, before taking a break for Season 27, with Kelsea Ballerini taking her spot. But in a new social media post, McEntire reveals she is coming back for Season 28, joined by fellow coaches Snoop Dogg, Michael Bublé and Niall Horan.

McEntire has yet to publicly comment about the upcoming season. She has been vocal about her love of being part of The Voice, a role she was initially offered when the show began. When she turned it down, Blake Shelton took the job, staying for the first 23 seasons, before passing the baton to McEntire

“It is a different part of me coming out because it’s non-scripted,” McEntire said during her inaugural season, where she was joined by Horan, John Legend and Gwen Stefani. “It is. You just go have fun, which I like to do that. And cutting up with Niall and Gwen and John, and jabbing them and doing that competitive thing, it is just hysterical. And they come up with some of the funniest skits for us to get to do. So it just brought out my personality that a lot of people haven’t seen. If you see a concert, you’ll see a little bit of it. It’s just me being a me.”

The news comes as McEntire continues to prove her staying power as one of the biggest country music superstars of all time. She is currently starring for the second season on the hit NBC sitcom, Happy’s Place. She also just debuted a brand-new song, “Trailblazer,” which she sings with  Lainey Wilson and Miranda Lambert. The three performed the song, written by Wilson, Lambert and Brandy Clark, during the recent ACM Awards, which McEntire also hosted.

McEntire wasn’t a writer on the song, but the three who did pen the song looked to McEntire’s extraordinary life and career for inspiration.

“I remember listening to it in the dressing room. I couldn’t find a flaw in it, not a word,” McEntire tells Billboard.  “It was that great. I was very emotional when I heard it.”

McEntire also hints that “Trailblazer” might not be her last collaboration with Wilson and Lambert.

“I love singing with these gals,” McEntire says. “They’re a lot of fun. They’re great singers. Our harmonies blend so well. So why not?”

McEntire won Season 25 of The Voice, with Asher HaVon.

“It feels wonderful, especially that it’s Asher,” McEntire told Entertainment Tonight after her first win. “I’m just tickled to pieces. But I gotta say something about The Voice: look how Asher is dressed. Every time you got on stage, you looked regal. You presented yourself with regalness. I was so proud of him. But they do such a good job on this show. The sets tonight, the design — unbelievable.”

A series premiere date for Season 28 of The Voice has yet to be revealed.  Download or stream “Trailblazer” here.
