Lainey Wilson is opening up about her upcoming movie role. The Louisiana native is starring in a new film, Reminders of Him, an adaptation of the 2022 book of the same name, by best-selling author, Colleen Hoover.
This isn’t Wilson’s first acting job. She previously starred in Yellowstone, but was ready for a new challenge after that role ended.
“After Yellowstone, after I played a musician role, I told my manager, ‘The next thing I want to do is something where I step outside of that,'” Wilson tells Country Living. “And this was the first opportunity that had presented itself to us, and that felt great. For the very first time, I’m playing a character that’s not a musician. It’s cool for me to be able to step into other people’s shoes and write from their perspective, so this gave me an opportunity to step into a pair of shoes and act from a different point of view.
“It was fun,” she adds. “It just gave me a creative outlet, and I really enjoyed it. We’ll see what else happens, but I can see myself doing more of it for sure.”
Wilson might want more acting jobs, but she has no plans of quitting country music. The Grand Ole Opry member is proud to be part of the genre, especially as it gains popularity.
“What’s happening with it right now, I don’t see that slowing down any time soon,” Wilson tells CMT. “And honestly, it kind of blows my mind to think about where it might be in ten years, but in the best kind of way. Everybody’s finding out about it. It’s like a hidden gem, and I’m proud to be a part of that. So who knows what ten years are gonna look like. I’ll keep playing and singing if they keep showing up.”

Wilson’s Whirlwind Deluxe album will come out on August 22. She is already working on a new record, one year after Whirlwind was released.
“Before Whirlwind was even out, I was already working on that next batch,” Wilson reveals. “So, we’ve got a deluxe coming [in August], but other than that, I’m working on the next full thing too. I always got those creative wheels turning, and that’s the way I like it. I like to stay creative because I feel like when I’m not, I’m just not myself.”
In addition to her soaring music career, the 33-year-old is also planning a wedding. Wilson is currently engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Devlin “Duck” Hodges.
“I think it’s going to be small,” Wilson reveals to Audacy of the ceremony. “We haven’t talked about this much. This is as much planning as we have done. We have said everything else is a big old to-do. We just want this to be about what it’s supposed to be about, and have our friends and family there and just really enjoy that moment.”
Wilson currently has a Top 40 hit with “Somewhere Over Laredo.” Find all of Wilson’s music and upcoming shows at LaineyWilson.com.
