It’s good to be Scotty McCreery these days. The country music superstar just released “Once Upon a Bottle of Wine,” from his forthcoming Scooter & Friends EP. McCreery sings the song with Charlie Wilson, one of three songs on the record. Scooter & Friends also includes “Bottle Rockets,” his collaboration with Hootie & the Blowfish, plus a song with Lee Brice.
McCreery has been teasing “Once Upon a Bottle of Wine” on social media, a romantic, bluesy song. The two talented artists sing, “Once upon a bottle of wine / In a bar not far away / One hello turned to dance all night / Turned to takе you back to my place, yeah / She was gonе in the morning light / Ain’t that a tale that is old as time / But I was hers and she was mine / Once upon a bottle of wine.”
“Once Upon a Bottle of Wine” is a new musical chapter for McCreery, who hasn’t fully shown this side of his stunning voice. But fans can rest assured, McCreery is still staying rooted in country music.
McCreery just announced he is launching a new monthly series, Prime Country with Scotty McCreery. The show will shine a spotlight on country music of the ’80s and ’90s.
“I love country music from every decade, but the country music of the ’80s and ’90s is probably my favorite era of music,” McCreery tells Billboard. “I’m excited to put a spotlight on the songs and performers I grew up listening to that helped shape the artist I am today.”
Per the outlet, each month will feature music by some of the biggest icons of that era, including Garth Brooks, George Strait, Randy Travis, Kathy Mattea, Patty Loveless, Keith Whitley, Ronnie Milsap and John Anderson.
“Each song is handpicked by me,” McCreery reveals. “I’ll be sharing stories of how an artist influenced me or how I met them or something we may have experienced together on the road or backstage at an awards show or the Opry.”
A member of the Grand Ole Opry since 2024, the North Carolina native will also give a nod to the history of the Opry during each of his shows.
“Every month, I’ll also be sharing a live Opry performance that was recorded on that legendary stage during the ‘80s or ‘90s,” McCreery shares. “My first episode will feature Joe Diffie performing ‘Pick Up Man’ on the Opry stage from Oct. 18, 1997.”
Not surprisingly, McCreery will also share his own music, from his more than a decade as part of country music.
“You’ll also hear one or two of my songs on the show because – hey, it’s my show,” McCreery says. “I’m hoping in the future to occasionally have guest artists join me for some conversation as well. I’m really pumped to be able to do this, and I appreciate SiriusXM offering me this opportunity. I hope people tune in and enjoy it!”
Prime Country With Scotty McCreery will premiere on Saturday, July 5 at 3:00 PM ET on Prime Country, with new episodes premiering the first Saturday of every month at the same time. Each show will also be rebroadcast on the channel several times throughout the month.
Scooter & Friends will be out on July 18. Find “Once Upon a Bottle of Wine,” “Bottle Rockets” and all of McCreery’s music and upcoming shows at ScottyMcCreery.com.
