Cole Swindell Reveals Due Date of First Child, Talks 'Nerve-Wracking' Wait

Cole Swindell and his wife Courtney are only a few weeks away from becoming first-time parents. For Swindell, he is as ready as he can be, at least until his daughter arrives.

“It’s been a great year, waiting to be parents,” Swindell shares on Country Countdown USA. “It’s just exciting, nerve-wracking, amazing. August 5th is the due date. I don’t know if you’re ever ready. We’ve got a lot of advice. From what I’ve heard, you don’t get a lot of sleep, and I guess I’ll learn as we go.”

Swindell is launching his headlining Happy Hour Sad Tour in September, which is shortly after the baby’s arrival. The 42-year-old admits the timing isn’t ideal, but the couple is making the most of it.

“It was one of those things,” Swindell acknowledges. “We didn’t really plan that. Fortunately, we have some time blocked off before and after the baby. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Also fortunately, the soon-to-be parents also have a home in North Carolina, where Courtney is from, and where they will receive plenty of help, especially with Swindell on the road.

“We go back and forth,” Swindell explains. “I love it there, and Courtney’s family is there. We’re gonna need help with the baby. Her family is great, so we’re going to deliver there, and we’ll be there a lot.”

Neither Swindell nor Courtney have been parents before. Still, the Georgia native is as prepared as possible, while eagerly awaiting his daughter’s arrival.

“I feel ready,” Swindell shares with Everything Nash and other outlets at a recent media event. “I don’t know if you’re ever ready for that. To have milestones in life, things happening like this. I heard people talk about it for years, when I had my head down, grinding. I’m still getting to work too, obviously. But just getting to have somewhat of a better balance with real-life stuff and career stuff. Being a dad is something that I didn’t know if it was in the cards for me. But then you meet somebody, and you just start making plans, and things happen fast. They say life comes at you fast. This is what they mean I think.”

Swindell’s latest album, Spanish Moss, is out now.

“This album, for me to love it this much, it sure didn’t feel like that the whole time,” Swindell concedes.  “I’m just being honest. The last album, just going into making an album after Stereotype, which gave me ‘Heads Carolina,’ ‘Never Say Never’ with Lainey Wilson, you don’t want to think about that. You just want to enjoy that.”

Three years might have been a long break between records. But for Swindell, it was also an important time in his life, with the changes reflected in Spanish Moss.

“I’ve waited a long time to live life, and not to worry about that for a minute,” Swindell explains. “I think getting engaged, getting married, just doing that, and then finally waking up and going, ‘This album, it’s not finished. It’s not even close to finished.’ So that’s when it all started back, writing and just making sure we had the right songs. That for me, knowing that we weren’t even close, it was an eye-opener.”
