Chris Young has another new song, from his forthcoming I Didn’t Come Here To Leave album, out on October 17. Young just dropped “Jesus, Momma, Country Radio.” The song, written by Young, along with Chris DeStefano, Taylor Phillips and Josh Phillips, is an uptempo, feel-good track that seems destined to be a hit.

“Jesus, Momma, Country Radio” says in part, “One lets the red letters save me from my sinning / One picks up the pieces when my heart gets broke / One’s got the soundtrack to keep my world spinning / God knows where I’d be if I didn’t know
Jesus, Momma, country radio.”

“Jesus, Momma, Country Radio” is just part of a bold new record that Young can’t wait to share with his fans.

“This album is really different,” Young admits on the In The Blind podcast. “It’s probably more country than people expect, because I’m one of those artists where, I’ve done some stuff like Neon, and I’ve done songs like “Losing Sleep.” And both of those are great songs, but they’re just stylistically one skews a little more pop than the other. It’s not necessarily a negative. If you go to my show, I’m gonna play both of those songs. I’m gonna play ‘Gettin’ You Home,’ and then turn around and play “At The End Of A Bar.”

“It’s just sort of how this record happened,” he adds.

How Chris Young Is Changing The Mold With His New Album

Not only is I Didn’t Come Here To Leave different for Young sonically, but it’s also a first for Young in how he recorded it.

“Most of the time, I have done three or four passes on vocals,” the 40-year-old shares. “We comp them together, and that’s it. I don’t want to belabor the process and have 60 takes that we’re cherry-picking things off of.  But what I did for this one was, as many takes as we need to get it right. With the first single, ‘‘Til The Last One Dies,’ we had the same band for the entire recording process. The same guys are on every track, which was fun. And it’s some of the best.”

Young’s “Jesus, Momma, Country Radio” is released as “‘Til The Last One Dies” is in the Top 40.

“I do love that song,” Young boasts. “That’s one of the few outside songs on the record. There’s only a couple. I just fell in love with that song. It’s a perfect, straight down the middle wedding, first dance love song. People have already gotten engaged to it at concerts. That means a lot. We know it’s starting to resonate with people when it’s that early on. It’s just now Top 40, and people are getting engaged to the song during the show, that’s a good sign. I love that one.”

Chris Young Honors His Father With New Song

Also included on I Didn’t Come Here To Leave is a song called “Just Keep Living,” written about Young’s father.

“It’s basically really about what my dad has gone through in his life,” Young says. “He’s had two heart attacks, the same heart attack both times. I’m like, ‘Can you pick something else? Like, stub your toe on the coffee table. Don’t do that.’ He had two widowmaker heart attacks that he survived. He got lung cancer and beat that. They cut a third of one of his lungs out. He just went, ‘All right.’”

Young recently announced his It Must Be Christmas Tour, kicking off on November 20 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Find all of Young’s music and upcoming shows at ChrisYoungCountry.com.
