Thomas Rhett Talks 'Surreal' Experience of Headlining Fenway Park

Thomas Rhett still can’t believe one of his biggest dreams just came true. Rhett recently headlined Boston’s iconic Fenway Park. For Rhett, it’s likely nothing will ever come close to the feeling of selling out the massive venue.

“It was surreal,” Rhett shares on Country Countdown USA. “I’ve had a couple bucket list things, and this was one of them. It took me a while to come down from the high of Fenway. It was completely sold out, 35,000 people. It was just a dream.”

What Thomas Rhett Said After Selling Out Fenway Park

After Rhett sold out Fenway Park, the Georgia native penned a heartfelt letter to Boston.

“Dear Boston.. too many memories to count,” Rhett writes. “Some I remember vividly and some are foggy for reasons I’m sure you can imagine. Pretty sure I have played most every venue this town has to offer. From the House of Blues, to my first tour ever opening for Toby Keith at the Xfinity Center, to the home of the Patriots opening for Kenny Chesney, opened here twice for Jason Aldean. Where I got to witness the masterpiece of a performance by the one and only Kid Rock, to arguably my favorite show ever two years ago at TD Garden, and to cap all that off getting to headline here last night alongside my brother Teddy Swims is something I may never wrap my head around.

“I’ve drank most of your bars outta beer, ate my weight in lobster rolls, tried but failed every time to get a reservation at Neptune Oyster, threw my guts up on a whale watching tour, and attended my fair share of Red Sox games,” he continues. “Needless to say this place has always been and always will be one of my favorite places to play shows on the planet. Since day one of my career I have dreamed of this moment. I’m so grateful for how much support y’all have shown me for over 15 years. So If I said I love you too many times last night, it’s because I’m not sure how to fully express how much this city means to me.”

Thomas Rhett Balances His Family And Career

Rhett works hard at balancing being a husband and a father of four with his career.

“Obviously, [I’ve] been blessed with an amazing family, blessed with being able to play shows and make music,” Rhett reflects. “But I think as my kids get older, it does become more challenging to do as much as I used to. I still try to keep up on social media, but at the same time, I do feel like when I am on social media a lot, then I’m neglecting something else. And my kids will always take precedence over that stuff.

“But at the same time,” he adds, “my wife and my kids know that this is what I love and what I was born to do, and so I think it’s just more about balancing the time now than it is just doing it all the time.”

The 35-year-old does say it might be getting easier, now that his daughters are getting older.

“I feel like I’m about to move into a season of life where I’m going to have some time again. Starting this Thursday, all of my kids are going to be in school five days a week. It’s never happened to me. I’ve always had a baby at home. But I think me and my wife will be able to go to lunch again.”

Rhett currently has the No. 1 song in the country, with “After All The Bars Are Closed.” Find all of Rhett’s music and upcoming shows at ThomasRhett.com.
