Reba McEntire is back on The Voice! The singer is one of the coaches for Season 28, along with Michael Bublé, Niall Horan and Snoop Dogg.
To help kick off the season, the four artists combined their talents to sing “The Joker.” The song was first released by the Steve Miller Band more than 50 years ago, in 1973.
“It’s such a joy to share the stage with this group of coaches,” McEntire says ahead of their performance.
What Reba McEntire Says About Returning to ‘The Voice’
McEntire first joined The Voice in for Season 24 in 2023, staying for three seasons before leaving the show, with Kelsea Ballerini filling her spot. But now, McEntire is back, in part due to her fellow coaches.
“I was really dreading it at first, because I don’t want to tell anybody they suck,” McEntire reveals on Late Night with Seth Meyer. “I passed on it years ago, when it first came over from Holland. And I said, ‘I can’t tell somebody, don’t give up your day job.’ I’m not gonna do that. But the way we did it, on the first time I was on The Voice, it was more helpful and encouraging. And everybody that’s coming back now, Snoop, Michael, myself and Niall, we’re nice people. We encourage. We lift up.”
McEntire would have returned last season, but was unable to, due to other commitments, including her Happy’s Place sitcom, also on NBC.
“Oh, the scheduling was totally it,” McEntire tells Today.com. “I thought Kelsea Ballerini did such a great job. That was a really good pick with her.”
Reba McEntire Is Getting Married
McEntire is still filming Happy’s Place, but she may have to juggle wedding plans as well. She and her longtime boyfriend, Rex Linn, recently announced they are getting married, after dating for more than five years. McEntire has been married twice, most recently to Narvel Blackstock, whom she divorced after 26 years of marriage. Because of that, the Country Music Hall of Fame member said the decision of whether or not to say “I do” was totally up to Linn.
“That would be up to him,” McEntire says on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “I’ve been married twice, he’s never been married, so if he wants to, that’s totally up to him.”
McEntire recently opened up about her painful 2015 divorce from Blackstock, one of the hardet chapters in her life.
“My manager was my husband from 1989 to 2015,” McEntire tells Esquire. “Everybody took care of everything. All I had to do was get up and sing. When that dissolved, all that team went with him, and I was scared to death. I was deserted, abandoned, and left. I threw a fit.”
“Then there they were, my angels, right there beside me,” she continues. “‘Hey, you’re learning. You didn’t know how much a gallon of milk was, now you do. Now get out there. You can do it. You’re tough. We taught you better.’”
The Voice airs on Monday and Tuesday nights at 8:00 PM ET on NBC. The show will stream the following day on Peacock.
