Scotty McCreery is speaking out about his latest chart-topping single. The North Carolina native is celebrating his seventh No. 1 hit, with “Bottle Rockets,” a song McCreery sings with Hootie & the Blowfish.
McCreery shares a video on social media, celebrating the good news.
“We officially have the No. 1 song in the US of A,” McCreery says. “‘Bottle Rockets’ is No. 1. Me and Hootie & the Blowfish, this is unreal y’all. It’s unreal. It never gets old. I think this No. 1 is extra special, just being that it’s with the group that I grew up listening to. [They’ve] been heroes of mine for a long time, and now it’s just super cool to be able to call them friends. I just want to thank all of y’all for listening to the song, letting it be a part of your summer. Country radio, thank y’all for playing it for everybody, and taking this thing all the way to the top, No. 1.”
What Scotty McCreery Said When “Bottle Rockets” Hit No. 1
When “Bottle Rockets,” which includes Hootie & the Blowfish’s debut “Hold My Hand” single first went No. 1, McCreery shared his thoughts on the massive accomplishment.
“Any time your song hits No. 1, it feels great,” McCreery says. “To be able to hit No.1 with a song featuring a band you have loved your whole life is beyond amazing! Thanks to Hootie & The Blowfish for joining me on this song, thanks to Triple Tigers Records and Triple 8 Management for all their hard work, thanks to country radio and the streaming services, and thanks to the fans who have supported me from day one.”
The Story Behind Scotty McCreery and Hootie & the Blowfish’s “Bottle Rockets”
McCreery wrote “Bottle Rockets” with several other writers, while at a writing retreat, working on his next record. McCreery knew they had something special when the song was finished, dreaming then that he would get the rock band to sing with him on the song.
“It fit like a glove when we wrote it,” McCreery boasts on Marty & McGee. “When we wrote it, I did the demo by myself, and it worked. But the dream was, can we get Hootie & the Blowfish to do this? Me and [Darius], we’ve become good friends over the years, and we’re golf buddies now. We’re in the same fantasy football league. We’re boys, but when you text somebody that, it’s not just being boys, now we’re talking business. So I was a little nervous.
“But he texted right back that he loved the song, and wanted to do it,” he remembers. “He said, ‘Let me get the other guys involved.’ And we didn’t sample it either. They all went back in the studio, rerecorded their parts. I was just cheesing when I got the mix back.”
Hootie & the Blowfish also join McCreery on the “Bottle Rockets” video. The father of two is co-headlining the Two For The Road Tour with Dustin Lynch. Find “Bottle Rockets” and all of McCreery’s music and upcoming shows at ScottyMcCreery.com.
