Thomas Rhett will soon be a father of five. Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins, announced in August that they were expecting again, although Rhett now says this will likely be their last child.
“I remember when Lauren and I got married, she was always like, ‘You know, I do want five kids,'” Rhett recalls on SiriusXM‘s The Highway. “And 13 years ago, you’re kind of like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. That sounds good. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.’ And then you have one, and then you have two, and then you have three, and then you have four. And this last one, I just could not believe it, because actually, we’d been trying for quite a while. And not that we gave up trying, but we kind of just left it all just open-ended.”
Rhett recalls the sweet way Akins shared that she was finally pregnant.
“I remember coming home from the road on Father’s Day,” he shares. “That was my gift, three positive pregnancy tests, which is pretty rad. We’re super jacked.”

Why Thomas Rhett Is Not Finding Out the Gender Of Their Fifth Child
Rhett already has four daughters, but is waiting until the delievery to find out if his girls get a sister or a brother.
“I was kind of against it at first because I’m such a planner in life,” Rhett says of choosing to wait to find out the gender. “I really wanted to know. If it’s a girl, it’s like, ‘Oh, okay. I know how to do that.’ But if it’s a boy, I need to start stocking up on my books. I need to start learning how to raise a boy. But I think it is one of the very few surprises left in life. You can find anything out in the world. And so ,we’re gonna give the card to one of our friends so we have one friend in life that knows what the gender is, so that if it is a boy, we can have boy things. But yeah, I’m jacked.”
Rhett makes it clear that he will be happy either way, even though he thinks he is having a son.
“I think it’s a boy,” Rhett reveals. “I have a gut feeling that it’s a boy. I do. But we’d be thrilled either way.”
Rhett once hinted that he wanted six kids, but now says he is happy with five.
“I mean, five has kind of always been our number,” Rhett tells Taste of Country Nights. “Anything above five, we will have to get a Sprinter van.”

Rhett and Akins have been married since 2012. For Rhett, the secret to their successful marriage is to try to always find agreement, even if it takes work.
“Be aligned on all fronts,” Rhett says on Audacy. “Finances, the way that we’re gonna raise our kids, the schools we’re gonna go to, church we’re gonna go to. Just being [together] the whole way makes for so much more of a peaceful marriage. But it takes work, and it takes a lot of conversation. And maybe some arguments here and there, but I think just alignment is what I would say.”
