Tim McGraw Looks Ahead After More Than 30 Years in Country Music

Tim McGraw has a lot more he wants to do, in music and in life. The 58-year-old has been part of country music for more than 30 years, ever since his self-titled debut album came out in 1993. But according to McGraw, there is still a lot more he wants to do in country music.

“I like being busy. I like working,” McGraw says. “Gosh, I feel like I’m just hitting my stride. I feel like I got a lot of work to do, and a lot of things to do. And I just love what I’m doing. I feel like I’m in a good spot. I feel like I’m getting better at my craft, and I just love making music and love being in studio recording. I never take it for granted. I’ve been very fortunate. My career has outdone all of my expectations. It’s more than I could ever hope for.”

McGraw is also continuing to release music. He has a Top 40 hit at country radio, with “Paper Umbrellas,” a collaboration with Parker McCollum. He also just released “King Rodeo,” a song he wrote with Tom Douglas.

Tim McGraw Wants to Continue His Acting Career

McGraw wants to keep making music, but he also wants to keep honing his skills as an actor. In addition to appearing in hit movies like Friday Night Lights, The Blind Side, The Shack, and more. McGraw recently starred alongside his wife, Faith Hill, in 1883, a spinoff from Yellowstone. Although the show has ended, McGraw is ready to return to TV again.

1883 was the first TV series that I had done, and Faith had done,” McGraw says. “Movies are a little quicker for sure, but 1883, Faith and I both joke that it was the hardest job we’ve ever had, period, in our lives. And I grew up in a farm town working on farms and driving tractors, and pulling coffee weeds out of rice fields. So I did some hard labor growing up. And we were shooting 1883 for six months, sometimes six days a week, 14 hours a day on horseback and terrible weather conditions – either burning hot or freezing cold.

“It was a lot of hard work, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” he adds. “But we had such a great time and it was a great experience for Faith and I together, and I would love to do another Western somewhere down the road.”

The Story Behind Tim McGraw’s “King Rodeo”

McGraw debuted “King Rodeo” at the inaugural Music City Rodeo earlier this year, which he headlined.

“We’ve been working on a new record, and we thought that this song was appropriate for the night,” McGraw said when announcing the new tune. The song says in part, “So the spotlight’s faded, you moved a little past your prime / Don’t let ’em make you jaded, ’cause you can’t turn back time / Tomorrow’s like a woman, you can’t understand / Lady Luck’s been good to you, so take her by the hand / Hey King Rodeo.”

No word yet on when a new album will be released. But the Louisiana native did say he was blown away by the response from his fans to the song.

“King Rodeo has gotten so much love from fellow artists, fans, and the rodeo family,” McGraw says. “It’s become such a special part of the shows, thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
