Old Dominion Receives a Star On the Music City Walk of Fame

Old Dominion has a star on the Music City Walk of Fame. The band was inducted along with Charley Pride and songwriter Liz Rose.

“This is such a humbling experience,” lead singer Matthew Ramsey said during the group’s induction. “Especially for a bunch of guys that consider themselves underdogs. At times, that was very true, and other times not so true. But still, we have that spirit about us, I think. Even now, receiving this, there’s that nagging voice in our heads that’s telling us we’re still underdogs. And in that underdog spirit, we bled for this in a lot of ways. Not for recognition or awards, but for the songs and for the music, and for each other. We had to believe, when it felt like no one else did.”

Old Dominion Talks About Chasing a “Crazy Kind of Dream”

Ramsey continued his speech by looking back on their journey, and all of the highs and lows they have experienced since forming Old Dominion.

“The thing about chasing this crazy kind of dream is the voice that’s telling you that you believe in yourself, can very quickly turn on you, and convince you that you were crazy for ever believing in the first place,” Ramsey remarked. “In those moments, if you don’t have people that believe for you, you’ll never make it. And we have those people. Our families, and our friends, and our team, and our loved ones, and our fans. You cannot make a mark of this magnitude without the people that make a mark on you, so thank you for that.”

Old Dominion’s CMA Awards Nomination

Old Dominion is once again nominated for Vocal Group of the Year at the upcoming CMA Awards. The group has won that trophy every year since 2018, and could likely win it again at next week’s ceremony. Old Dominion is nominated this year alongside Lady A, Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts, and The Red Clay Strays.

During last year’s acceptance speech, Ramsey reflected on how far the band has come since their early days

“I’m sitting in the crowd trying to take all of this in, and I thought of this moment where about 12 years ago, Geoff [Sprung] and I were sitting on my porch,” Ramsey remembered (via People). “We were drinking coffee, and we were talking about what we wanted this band to be. And we watched this dude pull up and turn my water off because I couldn’t pay the bill.”

“We could not have dreamed that we wouldn’t be standing here having won this thing seven years in a row,” he added. “This is absolutely insane. Thank you guys so much for allowing us to continue to do this.”

Old Dominion just released their fifth studio album, Barbara. The record includes “Making Good Time,” their current Top 40 single.
