Cody Johnson recently went public with the news that his son, Jaycee Daniel, was born on October 21. Johnson waited until he was on Country Countdown USA to speak about his baby boy, choosing to keep the news private for as long as possible.
Johnson shares Jaycee with his wife, Brandi. The two are also parents to daughters Clara and Cori, who are ten and eight.
“I’m a pretty private person,” Johnson explains. “Brandi is, too. Some artists post all the time. Not me. When I’m on stage with the guitar, I interact with the world. But when I take my hat off, I’m very private.”
Johnson reveals that Brandi went into labor early in the morning on October 21.
“It was 1:00 AM, couldn’t sleep. And about 2:30, Brandi said her water broke. I figured out her diesel truck tops out at about 125 miles an hour,” Johnson quips.
All jokes aside, Johnson is thrilled to have a son.
“They’re happy and healthy, and it’s been a wonderful experience,” Johnson says.

What Cody Johnson Says About Having A Son
Johnson plans on raising his son much the way he was raised, although he admits there will be some differences in his son’s childhood.
“He’s going to get to grow up differently than I did,” Johnson admits. “I grew up going catfishing a lot and hunting a lot, whether it was squirrels or rabbits or deer, whatever, duck, whatever it was, dove…but a lot of that was out of necessity. Not that we necessarily couldn’t afford certain things, but it just made life a lot easier. Whenever you go out and you catch 24 catfish and you clean them, and now you have meat in the freezer.
“We were told trophy hunting is for rich guys,” he continues. “So, when you went hunting, if it was a doe, you killed the doe, and that was all the meat was used. But for him, he’s going to get to grow up and not have to worry about that. So now he’s going to get to just go hunt for fun or fish because he likes it.”
Cody Johnson Gives An Update On His Health After Canceling His 2025 Tour Dates
Johnson made the heartbreaking decision to cancel the remainder of his 2025 tour dates, so he could have surgery to repair a ruptured eardrum. Although Johnson hated to spend time away from the road, he does reveal he is healing well, and is eager to tour again in 2026.
“I’m getting better,” Johnson shares. “The eardrum itself has healed. I’m getting better. I’ve been singing. My voice sounds better than ever since I haven’t been singing. … The goal is to come back in February.”
Cody Johnson’s Four CMA Awards Nominations
Johnson is nominated for a total of four CMA Awards, including the night’s highest honor, Entertainer of the Year. He is also nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year, Musical Event of the Year, and Music Video of the Year, the latter two for his “I’m Gonna Love You” duet with Carrie Underwood.
“What a great honor it is to be recognized for simply loving country music so much,” Johnson says. “I’m grateful for the liberty I have in this business to create the music I want to make. And grateful to the fans who have stood by me for many years to get us to this point. I’m having the time of my life!”
The ceremony will air live on ABC from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 19, at 8:00 PM ET. It will stream the next day on Hulu.
