Carly Pearce just unlocked a new musical chapter, one that is brave and honest. Pearce just released “Dream Come True,” a song she wrote with Lauren Hungate, Tofer Brown, and Emily Weisband, about the cost of living out her dreams.
“Dream Come True” says in part, “But nobody loves you for you / Nobody calls you if you lose your shine / Nobody tells you everything you’re gonna lose / Trying to make the dream come true.”
Pearce says the song is a good indication of what her next album, the follow-up to Hummingbird, will sound like.
“There’s a lot of anxiety wrapped up in this song, where I was just feeling the effects of so many different things and so many loud voices in my head that were in my head,” Pearce tells SiriusXM’s The Highway. “But I think what this song did for me and this whole new chapter of music, why I am so excited about it, and why I started with this song is because I had to go back to, why did I fall in love with music in the first place? Why did I love this dream? It wasn’t for awards, it wasn’t for No. 1 songs. It wasn’t for viral moments, [it] was not for TikTok . It was not for all of these things.
“It was because I had a dream of singing country music,” she adds. “And what that has done for me is, it allowed me to return back to the original dream. And it has allowed me to make my best music I think I’ve ever made.”
Carly Pearce Looks Ahead With Next Album
It’s been eight years since Pearce’s debut Every Little Thing was released. Now, as she is ready to introduce her fifth record to the world, Pearce feels uninhibited and free, and ready to show more of who she is as a singer-songwriter.
“I think this is my best chapter of music, because it’s returning to the Appalachian, Kentucky classic country mixed with bluegrass music that I grew up on,” Pearce reveals. “I think I’ve kind of widened my writing to not just speak about one thing. I think I’m showing my point of view and sharing my point of view for the first time on a lot of different subjects.
“I just had a lot of fun,” she continues. “There’s a lot of fun in it and there’s just a lot of variety, but you can definitely hear that there’s a maturity and a depth to this project that I haven’t had yet.”
The Lyrics to Carly Pearce’s “Dream Come True”
Dream come true
Bought me a house at the end of a cul-de-sac
Four bedrooms
But I only use one
Dream come true
Got me a gig on my best friend’s wedding day
Same old news
She knew I couldn’t come
A million girls would love to wear your shoes
You can’t complain if it’s the kinda life you choose
But nobody loves you for you
Nobody calls you if you lose your shine
Nobody tells you everything you’re gonna lose
Trying to make the dream come true
Dream come true
Got me fallin’ for the boys in the bars downtown
Front page news
When it didn’t work out
Yeah, dream come true
Got me sittin’ on the couch, cryin’ in the dark
Every plaque on the wall is a broken heart
Damn, look at me now
Nobody loves you for you
Nobody calls you if you lose your shine
Nobody tells you everything you’re gonna lose
Trying to make the dream come true
My mama’s sick
Don’t see her that much when I’m on the road
And it’s gettin’ too hard to come to my shows
Like she used to
She says I can’t quit
But then all of her prayers would be in vain
She worked my whole damn life to make
This dream come true
