Reba McEntire is opening up about her upcoming wedding to Rex Linn. McEntire and Linn have been engaged for almost a year, although they have yet to reveal a wedding date.
“A Reba/Rex wedding is going to be very different,” McEntire says on the Today Show. “It’s going to be low-key, lots of fun, lots of people, lots of food. Our big motto is have fun.”
McEntire recalls how they unintentionally announced that they were getting married.
“A lot of people did not know,” McEntire admits. “And when he asked me to marry him, it was Christmas Eve a year ago. So we were gonna announce it when we got back to L.A., but the fires happened. And there was not room for our joy in the devastating situation that everybody else was in. So we just waited, and just kind of pushed it. And at the Emmys, somebody said, ‘Your fiancé’s going to be in this interview,’ and I said, ‘Yeah,’ and then she just announced it. I didn’t correct her.”
Reba McEntire Recalls How Rex Linn Proposed
McEntire and Linn have been together since 2020. They were out for a walk on her property when Linn unexpectedly popped the question.
“I said, ‘What are you doing?’” McEntire recalls to USA Today. “And he said, ‘Would you marry me? I want to cross the finish line with you.’”
The 70-year-old was so surprised, she forgot to answer his proposal.
“He said, ‘You’re not saying anything!’ ” McEntire remembers. “And I finally said, ‘Well, yes! YES!’ He thought he was going to have to jump into the creek.”
McEntire does have a diamond, even though she doesn’t always wear it. Still, she says she loves the ring Linn picked out for her.
“It sparkles all the time, and it doesn’t matter that I don’t think I’ve ever cleaned it,” McEntire says. “I’m having a blast. I feel like a teenager again. It’s just a wonderful time.”

Why Reba McEntire Is So Happy With Rex Linn
McEntire has been married twice before. She was first married to Charlie Battles from 1976 to 1987. In 1989, McEntire married Narvel Blackstock, who was also her manager at the time. The couple split in 2015, a divorce McEntire has said she did not want. But now, McEntire is thrilled that she is with Linn.
“I’ve never been loved by a man like Rex Linn,” McEntire tells People. “Rex is a very tender-hearted man, and I just love him with all my heart. He’s a good guy. Real bashful though.”
McEntire and Linn also work together, on the hit NBC sitcom, Happy’s Place.
“Getting to work with Rex, drive to work with Rex and do the show, the rehearsals, drive home, talk about it, rehearse together — that’s what’s really special for me,” McEntire says. “I’ve not had that before.”
The two might enjoy working together, but the Country Music Hall of Fame member says Linn is much more intentional about rehearsing than she might be otherwise.
“He is a workaholic, and he loves to rehearse,” McEntire says (via People). “Me, not so much on the rehearsal part, so he really makes sure that I know my lines, that I’m ready to go when we have a tape day. We have a blast. We’re so grateful and thankful that we get to go to work together, work together, and then go home together.”
McEntire is hosting the annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center. The show will air on Wednesday, December 3, at 8:00 PM ET on NBC.
