Jason Aldean is sharing the story behind his heartbreaking new song, “Help You Remember.” Aldean wrote “Help You Remember” with Kurt Allison, Tully Kennedy, John Morgan, and Lydia Vaughan, for his forthcoming Songs About Us album, out on April 24, 2026.
The song was inspired by Aldean’s uncle, who passed away with Lewy body dementia last year, and his wife, Brittany Aldean’s father, who is currently battling dementia.
“‘Help You Remember,’ to me, that’s a really personal thing,” Aldean says. “It was something that I was out at my house one night. I called Tully, and just kind of said, ‘Man, I’ve got this idea for this song. We’ve been going through some family stuff, on my side of the family and my wife’s side of the family, where we have family members that are dealing with dementia, that kind of thing.’ And I said, ‘Man, I got this title called ‘Help You Remember.” We kind of started hashing out the idea of what we thought it was going to be. Tully took it in, and just started working on it.”

How Jason Aldean And the Other Writers Wrote “Help You Remember”
As soon as Aldean and the other writers landed on “Help You Remember,” they knew it was something special.
“It’s a different kind of song,” Aldean acknowledges. “It’s not like going in to write this fun song. We went in to write it more like a ‘Live Like You Were Dying,’ this big, meaningful song. And those are hard to write, especially when our career’s been built on these fun, uptempo type things.”
“It was almost at first kind of intimidating, because what that song is about, that’s a really heavy experience for people who are going through that with their loved ones,” Vaughan adds. “I remember just feeling like, ‘I really want us to do this justice. I really want this song to mean something to people, and capture that experience, in a way that’s not too sad, but not too happy that it discredits how heavy of a situation it is.”
What Jason Aldean Says About “Help You Remember”
Aldean has been releasing music for 20 years, since his eponymous debut record came out in 2005. But even he admits there is something special about “Help You Remember,” a style of song he hasn’t done before.
“You get caught in this thing of going in, and you’re just trying to turn out songs,” the father of four reflects. “You’re just trying to write a song, write a hit. Who’s gonna cut this? Who’s looking for this? Who’s looking for that? Sometimes, when you pull from personal experience, and things are going on, and you really sit down and figure it out, you come up with these things that really are impactful, that are going to hit a lot of people.
“I feel like that’s what we landed on with this song,” he adds. “And it’s one of those songs that it is really hard to write. There is something to this thing that is really special that I think is going to resonate with a lot of people. And so it’s a cool one that I’m excited for people to hear.”
