Jelly Roll Wins 3 Grammy Awards, Says Music and God Changed His Life

Jelly Roll is officially a Grammy winner. The Nashville native just took home his first three Grammy Awards, for Best Contemporary Country Album for Beautifully Broken, Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song with Brandon Lake for “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” and Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Shaboozey for “Amen.”

After winning the trophy for Best Country Album, Jelly Roll was full of emotion as he accepted his award.

“First of all, Jesus, I hear you, and I’m listening. Lord, I am listening. Lord,” Jelly Roll says from the stage. “Second of all, I want to thank my beautiful wife. I would have never changed my life without you. I would have ended up dead or in jail. I would have killed myself if it wasn’t for you and Jesus. I thank you for that.”

Jelly Roll goes on to thank his label, Broken Bow Records, and country radio, before reflecting on how far he has come, from being in prison to a Grammy Awards winner.

“There was a time in my life that I was broken. That’s why I wrote this album. I didn’t think I had a chance. There were days that I thought the darkest things. I was a horrible human. There was a moment in my life that all I had was a Bible this big,” he says, holding up a small Bible, “and a radio the same size, in a six-by-eight-foot cell. And I believed that those two things could change my life. I believed that music had the power to change my life, and God had the power to change my life.

“And I want to tell you all right now, Jesus is for everybody,” he continues. “Jesus is not owned by one political party. Jesus is not owned by no music label. Jesus is Jesus, and everybody can have a relationship with Him. I love you, Lord.”

Jelly Roll Declines to Discuss Politics At the 2026 Grammy Awards

Backstage after winning his three Grammys, Jelly Roll was asked about his thoughts on politics in the United States, an invitation he respectfully declined.

“So this is the truth, and I’m glad somebody asked, because I love talking about this stuff,” he says (via People). “And people care to hear my opinion, but so I can tell you that people shouldn’t care to hear my opinion.”

“You know, I’m a dumb redneck, like, I haven’t watched enough,” he adds. “I didn’t have a phone for 18 months.”

The future Grand Ole Opry member says he will have something to say, but not until he does enough research.

“I grew up in a house of insane pandemonium. Like, I didn’t even know politics were f–king real until I was in my mid-20s in jail,” Jelly Roll maintains. “That’s how disconnected [you are] when you grew up in a drug addict household. You think we had common calls about what’s happening in rural politics?

“We’re just trying to find a way to survive. … I’m going through it the next week, and everybody’s going to hear exactly what I have to say about it in the most loud and clear way I’ve ever spoke in my life,” he adds. “So look forward to it on the internet.”
