Thomas Rhett‘s wife, Lauren Akins, is opening up about her own family’s heartbreak. In a new post on social media, Akins, who is pregnant with the couple’s fifth child, reveals her sister, Macy, is battling cancer.
“Carrying so much joy and anticipation as well as carrying a lot of heavy and sadness in this season,” Akins writes. “It feels so hard and unnatural and sometimes wrong to feel both, but these are my days right now. So grateful for another little life growing in our family, and also heartbroken that my little sister is walking through a valley that feels so hard. It’s okay to feel both. I know our Father can handle any emotion (or hormone) I throw at Him.
“And I am so grateful that Jesus has been so near,” she continues. “So near to our family and community supporting Macy and even more near I think to Macy – she is truly letting the Lord fight for her (Exodus 14:14) and He has given her such strength and bravery and her faith has grown tremendously. We can feel Him sustaining us all, and we are believing He will be glorified in it all – on the mountain tops and in the valleys.

Lauren Akins Gives An Update On Her Sister’s Battle With Cancer
Akins goes on to thank her followers for the prayers and support for Macy, revealing that she has already started treatment.
“She started chemo this week for Stage 3 breast cancer and she’s already crushing it like a boss,” Akins says. “And thank you for your kindness and excitement as we get closer to meeting this new life God has given me the privilege of carrying for the past nine months. We cannot wait to kiss the sweet face of this baby boy or girl. And I can’t wait for my sister to hold this sweet little babe and love on him or her in a way that only she can.”

During a Grand Ole Opry performance on February 11, Country Now reports that Rhett said Akins was already in early labor. The couple, parents to four girls, decided to wait to find out the gender of their upcoming baby, although Akins thinks it’s a boy.
“Consistently, across the board, everybody I know, and even strangers, are like, ‘It is a boy,’” Akins says on the That Sounds Fun podcast, also revealing that almost everyone predicts the two will soon have a son.
“I need to go back and count. I think it’s 14 people have had dreams that I’m having a boy,” Akins says. “A couple of them were children. Willa Gray was one of the first. And the other one was one of our really good friends’ little girl. She came out of her room, and she was like, ‘Daddy, I think Miss Lauren’s gonna have a baby. And she’s gonna have a boy.’ He was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ She was like, ‘I had a dream. Lauren’s having a baby, and it’s going to be a boy.’ And then one of my brother-in-law’s really good friends, his mother, who I never met before, had a dream.”
