Carrie Underwood Makes Being a Mother Her First Priority

Carrie Underwood might be a global superstar, but that isn’t her proudest accomplishment or her most important job. Instead, the 43-year-old says being a mother to her sons, 11-year-old Isaiah and seven-year-old Jacob, takes priority over anything else.

“I don’t bring work home with me,” Underwood says on The View. “And it is the opposite of what I do everywhere else. Being on stage and being at home, these are two different people, pretty much. And I love that because it’s like, they’ll come to shows, and they’ll see me do what I do, and I feel like they’re proud.”

Still, the person that her boys see on stage is not at all the mom that is part of their everyday lives. Underwood, who has been married to Mike Fisher since 2010, also wants to give her children as normal a life as possible, in spite of her worldwide fame.

“But mom makes dinner,” Underwood says. “I’m usually covered in dirt, or I have farm animals everywhere, or I’m covered in poop or whatever it is. That’s mom. And I hope, more than anything, that’s what they take away from me, and that’s what they remember about me. Like she was mom, and every once in a while she goes and gets on stage.”

Carrie Underwood Reflects On All Of Her Success

Underwood won Season 4 of American Idol in 2005. It was the beginning of a career, still going strong, which includes multiple awards, sold-out tours, a Las Vegas residency, millions of albums sold, and more.

“It is absolutely impossible to wrap my head around,” Underwood tells People.

“I feel very blessed that I’ve had so much support over the years from just so many fans,” she continues. “And I feel very undeserving, but it’s still really incredible, and even just thinking about it makes me emotional.”

The Oklahoma native is now enjoying her second season as a judge on the show, working alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

“I owe my career to American Idol,” Underwood says. “It has been such an important part of my life, and I will always be grateful for that. Coming back as a judge 20 years later is such a special full-circle moment for me, and it’s meant a lot to share that journey with the people that have been there from the beginning, as well as a whole new generation of Idol fans.”
