Chris Young Releases Clip of New Duet, 'One Of Us' [WATCH]

Chris Young just shared a clip of his new duet, “One of Us.” The song, which he sings with Shaylen, is part of his forthcoming deluxe version of his latest  I Didn’t Come Here To Leave album.

“Couldn’t be more excited to share that the deluxe version of my album I Didn’t Come Here To Leave will be out June 12th,” Young reveals. “I’m sharing the first new song called ‘One of Us’ featuring the amazing Shaylen next week on May 22nd! Go pre-save it now!”

In the cliip shared on social media, Young sings, “One of us is movin’ on, one of us is breakin’ down / One of us is partyin’ their way through downtown / One of us is fine, one of us is broken / One of us is replaying words unspoken / Looks like you’re falling all the way out of love / That makes one of us.”

What Chris Young Says About Recording Sad Songs

Not surprisingly, “One of Us” sounds like a sad song, something Young has built a successful career on recording. But according to Young, there is plenty of room for sad songs in country music.

“I do feel like sometimes, when you have something that heavy, it’s like, ‘Okay, now onto a drinking song,’ Young tells Apple Music (via Entertainment Focus). “I do that during my live show after I play ‘Drowning,’ I just give it a beat. And everybody’s sad and …I actively say on the mic, sometimes I’ll be like, ‘Well, now half the crowd is sad. Sorry.’ But sad songs in country music go together like peanut butter and jelly. I think that one of my favorite things about country is, you can have a sad song, you can have a fun song, you can have a love song.

“You could have a love song to tequila,” he adds. “You could have whatever you want about life. As long as it resonates with people, it can come in whatever order you want.”

The Title Track of Chris Young’s ‘I Didn’t Come Here To Leave’

Young penned most, but not all, of the songs on I Didn’t Come Here To Leave. But he did write the title track, penning it with Kyle Fishman and Dallas Davidson.

The song is a fun, uptempo tune. But it also has an important message about Young’s future in country music. I Didn’t Come Here To Leave is his first record on Black River Entertainment, after spending his career on RCA Records, his only label home after winning Nashville Star in 2006.

“I just had a lot of fun with this song,” the 40-year-old says. “And I also thought it was a statement of sort of where I’m at in my career, which is weird because if you think about my age compared to some other people that got started, at least on a label, much later than me. They’re older than me, so it’s very interesting to look at it. But I think that being around for 20 years on record labels, I think that’s indicative of that. And it’s sort of me just looking at everybody going, ‘I still have more to say.’”
