A new album is coming from Kenny Chesney! The East Tennessee native just announced the release of Silver Sands Marina, his 21st record, which will be available on September 25.
“It is such a well-written song,” Chesney says of the title track. “You can smell the fall in the air, the lake, and that solitude. Everyone’s so busy rushing, you miss most of the small details – and everything that happens around them. But in ‘Silver Sands Marina,’ not only do the details hold the song in place, they remind you that the magic happens in the simplest, realest places; you just have to be open to letting it happen.”
A sweet story song, Chesney is already anticipating watching the song come to life.
“These kinds of moments you couldn’t make happen, that’s the magic,” Chesney reflects.. “And the two people in the song, who fall into the experience so completely, they know it’s perfect as it’s happening, that this sort of thing doesn’t come along very often. But even more, they’re smart enough to let it be what it is.”
Why Kenny Chesney Made ‘Silver Sands Marina’ the Title Track
Chesney previously released “Carry On” from his next record, a song that is already becoming one of his biggest hits. But it’s “Silver Sands Marina” that Chesney feels best sets the tone for the project.
“When the guitars come in, along with the voices, you can sense the way the connection has built, even though it’s only for those 24 hours,” Chesney explains. “When the arrangement falls away, how much that moment got inside becomes concrete. This wasn’t hooking up; it wasn’t two strangers not looking back. These are people who connected on a soul level – and no matter how much time passes, this moment will always be vivid and alive.
“That’s the great thing about songs: they hold life like nothing else,” he continues. “As I was listening to the songs on this record, I realized ‘Silver Sands Marina’ defines the album. Beyond the story of these two people, this small, lakeside motel that’s existed for generations, it shows the reality that the things that matter actually exist beyond time or place; they’re timeless and always.”
Chesney recently revealed he added three more songs to Silver Sands Marina, after he thought the album was completed.
The Story Behind Kenny Chesney’s “Carry On”
“Carry On” became Chesney’s 100th charting single. The song is written by Jessi Alexander, Matt Jenkins, and Chase McGill.
“Sometimes you lock in, thinking a song is supposed to be one place, and you miss where it might fit better,” the Country Music Hall of Fame member says of “Carry On.” “But the more I looked, the more I kept coming back to ‘Carry On,’ because even more stripped down and acoustic, you couldn’t miss what that chorus was saying. Like ‘American Kids’ or ‘Get Along,’ this is one of those songs that no matter what’s happening in your life, it lifts you up higher and tells you to get out there and really live.”
