Wade Hayes just released a new version of “I’m Still Dancin’ With You.” The song, written by Hayes and Chick Rains, was first released as a single in 1995 on Hayes’ freshman Old Enough to Know Better record, becoming one of his many hit singles.
“‘I’m Still Dancing With You’ will always be a very special song to me,” Hayes tells Everything Nash. “I started writing this on a buddy of mine’s couch at about 2:00 AM after a club gig right before I moved to Nashville. I had the first two verses written, and it was one of the first songs that Chick Rains and I finished together, and went on to become my second No. 1. The changes on the new version are very subtle, but modernize it in a way that it’s still very recognizable yet sonically sounds updated.”
Hayes’ new version is part of his upcoming album, The Best of Wade Hayes Revisited, which will be available on July 31, featuring several songs from the early part of his career.
Wade Hayes Celebrates More Than 30 Years in Country Music
Hayes’ Old Enough to Know Better was released in 1994. More than 30 years later, Hayes is still performing, still writing music, and still feeling overwhelming gratitude, for all of it.
“The time has just flown by,” Hayes tells Everything Nash. “I can’t believe it. And I can’t believe I’m still out here getting to play music for a living. What a blessing that is.”
By his own admission, the Oklahoma native could have never predicted how far his country music dreams would take him, especially more than 30 years later.
“I thought when I was a kid, if I could just play guitar for a living, that would be awesome,” Hayes concedes. “I never dreamed I’d get to make records and have hit records and gold records, and still get to be doing this all these years later.”
Hayes has done so much in country music. But he still has one goal he wants to accomplish: have a song cut by another artist.
I always want to look forward as far as music goes, because I still have one dream that I have not realized in my life, and that’s to have another artist record a song that I wrote, and have a hit on it,” Hayes reveals.
“That is my one dream that I did not get to realize yet, and so that’s what I’m striving for,” he adds. “And so I continue to write songs and make records, and hopefully somebody will hear something that turns them on and record it … That would make the whole journey complete.”
