The Malpass Brothers have a new album, out now, and it’s a gospel record. The duo, made up of siblings Chris and Taylor Malpass, just released Satisfied: Country Gospel Classics, a live album and DVD, available now through Gaither Music Group.

“We started out in gospel music,” Taylor tells Everything Nash. “At one time, we were doing 175 churches a year. And so we started out doing that. It’s how we were raised. And the last couple of years, it’s something we’ve talked about doing, but didn’t really know how to go about it. And Ben Isaacs approached us about doing one.”

In fact, it was Ben who reached out to The Malpass Brothers, right after Chris and Taylor had been discussing doing a gospel album. The timing was providential.

“It was just one of those God things,” Taylor says.

Not surprisingly, narrowing down the songs on Satisfied: Country Classics was a challenge.

“We picked a bunch of them that we had done growing up,” Taylor explains. “The whole album is just fun, and a very meaningful project.”

Recording a 20-song album is ambitious enough. But never ones to shy away from a challenge, The Malpass Brothers chose to do a live DVD as well.

“It was interesting, ’cause I thought we were going to do this in the studio,” Chris says. “And Ben was like, ‘No, we’re going to do this live.’ We had an audience, our parents were there. It was packed. … It was a crazy night. It was a lot of emotions, a lot of fun, but a lot of emotions too. Kind of a trip down memory lane for us. It’s a special project.”

Asked if they have a favorite track, and both Chris and Taylor say it’s “Sheltered in the Arms of God.” Still, it’s Ben who first suggested The Malpass Brothers include that on the faith-based project.

“We had a sick family member, Taylor’s father-in-law was sick at the time, and that song was kind of medicine for all of us at that time,” Chris says. “So that’s my favorite one.”
