Kenny Chesney is opening up about  “Silver Sands Marina,” out now. The new song is the title track of Chesney’s next album, which will be available on September 25.

“When you hear the song, it’s so perfectly drawn, you almost can’t believe it’s real,” Chesney says. “But, of course, it is a real place – located on Lake Winnipesaukee – where generations of families and friends have tied up their boats, checked in, enjoyed the water and being together. You can feel all the happiness and fun people have had there the moment you step on the property.”

What Kenny Chesney Says About the Music Video for “Silver Sands Marina

Chesney shot the video for “Silver Sands Marina” at the actual place, doing all he could to bring the song to life.

“Like the song, there’s a sense this place can’t be real,” Chesney says. “When you pull up, it’s even more wonderful than the pictures. You can feel people’s lives have played out here; kids who’ve met, grown up together, occasionally gotten married and brought their kids there; fishing trips and reunions. And, as my song suggests, the occasionally unexpected encounter where you meet someone who sees you for all that you are – even if it’s only for a moment.”

Kenny Chesney’s New ‘Silver Sands Marina’ Album

Silver Sands Marina is Chesney’s first new record since BORN came out in 2024. The album also includes “Carry On,” Chesney’s 100th charting single. As soon as Chesney heard “Silver Sands Marina,” he knew he wanted to make it the title track.

“It is such a well-written song,” Chesney says. “You can smell the fall in the air, the lake, and that solitude. Everyone’s so busy rushing, you miss most of the small details – and everything that happens around them. But in ‘Silver Sands Marina,’ not only do the details hold the song in place, they remind you that the magic happens in the simplest, realest places; you just have to be open to letting it happen.”

The 58-year-old is known for his story songs. But few tell a story as well as “Silver Sands Marina,” which is what led him to make it the title track of his next project.

“These kinds of moments you couldn’t make happen, that’s the magic,” Chesney acknowledges. “And the two people in the song, who fall into the experience so completely, they know it’s perfect as it’s happening, that this sort of thing doesn’t come along very often. But even more, they’re smart enough to let it be what it is.”

More than any other song, Chesney says “Silver Sands Marina” is what drives the entire album.

“When the guitars come in, along with the voices, you can sense the way the connection has built, even though it’s only for those 24 hours,” Chesney explains. “When the arrangement falls away, how much that moment got inside becomes concrete. This wasn’t hooking up; it wasn’t two strangers not looking back. These are people who connected on a soul level – and no matter how much time passes, this moment will always be vivid and alive.

“That’s the great thing about songs: they hold life like nothing else,” he continues. “As I was listening to the songs on this record, I realized ‘Silver Sands Marina’ defines the album. Beyond the story of these two people, this small, lakeside motel that’s existed for generations, it shows the reality that the things that matter actually exist beyond time or place; they’re timeless and always.”
