Kane Brown Reveals the Surprising Reason He Got His Hand Tattooed

People get tattoos for a lot of reasons, but for Kane Brown, most of his are personal. Brown has numerous tattoos all over his body, including on both of his hands, which he now reveals he got for a very specific reason.

“I did that so I couldn’t get a normal day job,” Brown tells Inked. “I don’t know if that’s still a thing, but I was like, ‘I’m not going to sit here and work in a normal day job, so I’m going try to do this.’ So, I forced myself to be somebody.”

Although Brown now has no regrets, he does concede that his tattoos did get in the way of something he at one time thought he might pursue.

“I went to the Army, and they told me that I’d have to remove them back then,” says the singer.

Of all of his tattoos, the ones that mean the most to him are his family’s names, even though he’s still missing the name of his two-year-old son, Krewe.

“I still haven’t got my son’s,” Brown admits. “I don’t know. I feel like once you have a lot of tattoos, you get to the point where you hate getting tattoos. You love them, but you can’t stand getting them. That’s me.”

Kane Brown Looks Back At the Beginning Of His Career

Brown has been part of the music scene for a decade, after getting his start, not surprisingly, doing things his own way.

“I was doing covers,” the 32-year-old recalls. “And my goal was just for people to be exposed to my singing. By the time I was 22, things had started really moving along, and I had gone pretty viral. I released my first big breakout song, ‘Used to Love You Sober,’ right before my 22nd birthday, and it really put me on the map.”

Brown has had hit after hit at country radio, including his diamond-certified “What Ifs” duet with Lauren Alaina, plus “Heaven,” “Good As You,” his “Thank God” duet with his wife, Katelyn, and more. Brown has already far exceeded even his loftiest goals for himself.

“It was a dream come true to have a No.1 song on country radio,” Brown says. “It still is such an incredible feeling, and I’m so grateful every time I play it or hear it on the radio.”

Kane Brown Transforms His Physical Body

Brown has gone through a lot of transformations, including a physical one. In 2025, Brown started focusing on his health, losing weight and building muscle. Brown later revealed it was more for his mental health than his physical health.

“[I felt] worthless,” Brown tells People. “Really dark thoughts. I wanted to be in a corner, left alone.”

“I knew I needed to make a change,” he continues. “I needed something that was going to change my headspace. I didn’t feel there was anything better than changing the way I look.”

Fortunately for Brown, it worked.

“Getting in shape changed my mindset. I feel like I’m restarting my youth. I love everything it’s done to me, from the way I look to my mental state,” Brown reveals. “I want to give everything 100 percent now. And if I’m having a stressful day, I can find good things about life and about being here.”
