Miranda Lambert is sharing the story behind her new song, “Sunset Marquis,” out now. Written by Lambert, along with Jesse Frasure, David Garcia, Waylon Payne, and Ashley Monroe, “Sunset Marquis” is a tribute to the famous West Hollywood hotel, known for becoming a place for artists, musicians, actors, and more over the years.

“Sunset Marquis” is part of Crisco, Lambert’s 12-track record that will be releasd on October 2.

“I’ve been staying at the Sunset Marquis for close to 20 years,” Lambert says. “Every time I’m there, you never know who you’re going to run into or what kind of memories you’re going to make. It has this timeless energy that feels like stepping into another era. When we wrote this song, I wanted listeners to be able to close their eyes and feel like they were there with us – to see it, smell it and experience the magic that’s made the Sunset Marquis such a special place for so many years.”

“Sunset Marquis” is also part of If These Walls Could Rock, a documentary about the iconic Sunset Marquis hotel, out on August 14.

What Miranda Lambert Says About Her New ‘Crisco’ Album

Crisco is Lambert’s tenth studio album, coming 21 years after Lambert’s freshman Kerosene record came out in 2005.

“I’ve always loved every corner of country music,” Lambert says. “The heartbreak songs, the honky-tonk songs, the songs that make you think, and the songs that make you dance. Making this record reminded me that those things don’t have to be separated. We followed the songs wherever they wanted to go, trusted our instincts, and ended up with something that feels really fun and really honest to who I am.”

Crisco includes “A Song To Sing,” a duet with Chris Stapleton, “Till The Going’s Gone,” the title track, and more.

Lambert wrote “Crisco” with Aaron Raitiere, Frasure, and Chill Fellacheck. The song became a way for Lambert to honor the country music from decades before her, while still sounding relevant today.

“We wanted something that feels familiar but also fresh, which is really hard to do,” Lambert explains. “We leaned into all the things I grew up loving about country music – Glen Campbell, Kenny and Dolly; very ’70s and ’80s. It’s a fun mix of all these sides of country music that I’ve never fully explored before, even down to using strings in a bigger way. I almost can’t believe I’ve made this many records without really going there, but it was magical to hear how much strings can transform a song.”
