Megan Moroney has learned to deal with a lot over the last few years, a byproduct of her overwhelming success, beginning with her debut single, “Tennessee Orange,’ in 2022. In the years since then, Moroney has learned how to captivate large crowds, get accustomed to life on the road, and live in the spotlight.
But all of the success does come with one drawback: her own safety. In a recent interview with The Holllywood Reporter, Moroney admits that she is no longer able to feel comfortable going anywhere without a security guard.
“Honestly, the only time I’m truly anxious is if I am somewhere without my security guard, because then it becomes a safety thing,” Moroney says. “I want to assume people are nice, but when I’m approached and don’t have someone with me, that’s been starting to freak me out, for whatever reason.”
Still, Moroney knows that she is where she is because of her fans, which is why she is still grateful when people approach her.
“But honestly, even when I’m not feeling it, I just take the picture anyways,” Moroney says. “If I’ve got time to, obviously. If I’m going somewhere and don’t have time to take pictures with 20 people, then we got to keep it pushing. But anytime I do have time or if anybody recognizes me in person, even if I’m not feeling it’s like, well, this will take 20 seconds of my time, and it’ll make their life. I can go be in a sh–ty mood after this, but I should at least smile for two seconds.”

Moroney is currently headlining her Cloud 9 Tour, but she did just enjoy a little getaway, albeit with her security in tow.
“I actually was just on vacation down in Florida,” the 28-year-old reveals. “And it’s definitely one of those things where now when I’m on vacation, my security guard comes, which is a new thing that definitely years ago I didn’t need. But it’s honestly so much fun. I grew up going to this place in Florida. It’s like down in 30A. I remember when I was in college, I had written four songs and was just a college student down there.
“Now, when I go down there, it’s like I can’t go out without people recognizing me and wanting photos, but they’re so nice,” she adds. “I also know if I wanted a true vacation, where I’m just relaxing, I should probably go somewhere random, not somewhere that everyone knows I go.”
Megan Moroney’s Latest ‘Cloud 9’ Album
Cloud 9, Moroney’s third studio album, came out in February. The record includes “6 Months Later” and “Beautiful Things,” both hit singles for her.
“When I was writing these songs, I was overly confident,” Moroney tells Esquire. “The sass was turned up to ten. I’m being an exaggerated version of my day-to-day personality, and I had a lot of fun writing from that perspective. I wrote songs like ‘Medicine,’ like, ‘You gave your number to an L.A. blonde? Well, I gave the quarterback mine,’ and ‘Stupid’: ‘What’s there to not love? I’m the whole package!’ Then I realized, ‘Oh, this is gonna be a fun, light album.’ That’s when things started to shift.
“It feels like the first album where I’ve really got the hang of things,” she adds. “This is my best foot forward, which I’m proud of.”
