Kenny Chesney‘s Silver Sands Marina album is out on Friday, September 25. The 11-track record is built from the title track, a song written by Johnny Clawson and Kyle Sturrock.

“Silver Sands Marina” says in part, “Silver Sands Marina, it says it on the mug / That I threw in my suitcase when I was packing up / It don’t remind me of the lake or the pink paint on the wall / Just you and them 24 hours last fall.”

“The thing that really drew me to the song is, with all the social media and stuff, we are drawn so much to fake intimacy,” Chesney says on CBS Mornings. “And so that’s the thing that really – I’m a sucker for those kinds of songs, and that’s the thing that I really loved about it. And so, we went to the actual marina in New Hampshire.”

“We all have our own Silver Sands Marina, our own place where we felt connection, and felt those moments that we felt alive,” he adds. “And that’s what this whole song is about.”

Kenny Chesney Talks About “Remember Me That Way”

Chesney also talks about the poignant “Remember Me That Way,” written by HARDY, Shane McAnally, and Zach Abend. “Remember Me That Way” begins with, “Hey baby, ain’t time like rose-colored glass? / Everything looks a little better on the other side / The days go slow but the years go fast / Yeah, it’s easy to forget there was good in the bye.”

The song is Chesney’s next single at country radio.

“In my relationships over the years, it’s never ended great,” Chesney acknowledges. “It never ends great. But if you can get to a place — and sometimes, real forgiveness and perspective takes time. But if you can someday get to a place and look in the rearview mirror and find a little gratitude in something, that’s really good. ‘Remember Me That Way’ lives in the emotion of all of that. And that’s the thing about the record. There’s a lot of songs that have a lot of emotions in it, that make you feel really alive, and make you remember someone, or make you long for someone.”

Kenny Chesney’s Favorite Song on ‘Silver Sands Marina’

Chesney currently has a Top 5 hit with “Carry On,” the debut single from the record. But his favorite song is actually “Goldfish,” a feel-good track written by Gordie Sampson, Tia Sillers, and Tenille Townes. The chorus starts with, “Right now, I wish I had the memory of a goldfish.”

“It’s just the idea of, we all get so drawn up in, we all get so bent out of shape about what happens to us, and we remember everything,” Chesney says. “But it would be so great to not remember any of it.”

Asked what he wants fans to take away from Silver Sands Marina, Chesney’s answer is immediate – and specific.

“I want them to feel happy; I want them to feel loved, and joyful,” says the singer. “That’s what the world needs. That’s why I love to make music.”
