The only thing better than one great singer covering a Keith Whitley classic, is when two singers combine their talents, which is exactly what Alexandra Kay and Chase McDaniel just did. The two share a clip of them singing “When You Say Nothing At All” on social media.
“When You Say Nothing At All” is written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz. The song was first recorded by Whitley, and released in 1988 on his Don’t Close Your Eyes album.
Kay captions the video by saying, “What if ‘When You Say Nothing At All’ was a duet?”

Alexandra Kay’s Sophomore ‘Second Wind’ Album
Kay recently released Second Wind, her sophomore album, and her first on BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville. The record comes after her 2023 freshman All I’ve Ever Known project, which chronicled her heartache over the end of her first marriage. But now, Kay is happily in love with her band member, Rocko Beall. It’s a relationship that inspires much of Second Wind.
“It was a very conscious decision to describe what it felt like opening my heart again to someone else,” Kay tells Billboard. “I was very much living that, so I was like, ‘Let me just start writing love songs,’ which I had never done. You don’t just flip a switch and automatically you’re trusting and open to love again. I wanted to take people through that process.”
Kay and Beall were already good friends when their relationship turned romantic.
“He’s great. Right place, right time kind of thing, to where I was looking, seeing him in a different light,” Kay says on the Artist Friendly with Joel Madden podcast. “And then when we got together, the really cool thing was that, if you really unpack my last record, a lot of it was me feeling in my relationship like every little bit of love and affection was like pulling it out. And honestly feeling like I was high-maintenance when it came to love. I remember my ex used to tell me things like, ‘You need to stop watching Instagram reels,’ and ‘Real relationships aren’t like that.’
“When Rocko and I got together, he just proved to me in such a short time, and still does a year later, that I wasn’t asking too much,” she adds. “I was just asking the wrong person. … I am happier than I’ve ever been.”
Alexandra Kay Predicts Current “Straight For The Heart” Single Will Be Her First No. 1 Single
Kay has a new single at radio, “Straight For The Heart.” It’s a song the Illinois native predicts will be her first No. 1 single. “Straight For The Heart” is written by Karley Scott Collins, Jimmy Robbins, and Sasha Sloan.
”’Straight For The Heart’ is actually my first outside cut by myself,” Kay tells Country Swag. “I actually heard this song while sitting in a pitch meeting for some songs. As soon as it played, I had to have that song. I love it. I love that it really describes how I felt with this kind of female intuition of knowing that things were going south and being strong enough to know that I didn’t have to get let down easy.”
“Even though I wasn’t a creator of it,” she adds, “I’m really excited to be a vessel for it, and take it out into the world.”
Kay is spending much of 2026 on the road, including opening for Old Dominion in Australia and New Zealand in March.
