Anne Wilson Talks Touring With Morgan Wallen: 'I'm Very Grateful'

Anne Wilson is getting the opportunity of a lifetime later this summer, when she joins Morgan Wallen on the road. Wilson will join Wallen for a total of four dates on his I’m The Problem Tour in July and August. A longtime fan of Wallen, Wilson admits she was blown away to receive the invitation.

“I’m going to probably have a full-blown freakout attack the day I get there, but I’m very grateful,” Wilson tells Everything Nash. “It’s something that I never even thought was possible. I’m literally obsessed with his music. Anyone in my life that knows me, knows that he’s all I listen to. I literally mean all I listen to, all the time. And so, when I found out that I was going to go on tour with him, I was just blown away.

“He’s actually been a sweet supporter of mine and what I do,” she continues. “We’re very different artists. We have very different musical platforms and the kind of things we write about, but he’s been really encouraging, and supportive. So I can’t wait. I’m just praying that I have the strength to not pass out on stage. But I’m really excited, and it’s going to be a great time.”

Wilson might be joining the biggest country music superstar of this generation for a few shows, but she is still staying true to who she is, and what she believes.

“I’m going to go be myself, because it’s all I can be,” the “My Jesus” singer shares. “For me, it looks like the same exact set I would play at a Christian festival. I’m just going to play my music and share the gospel and be me. It’s interesting; on one of the nights it’s me, Miranda [Lambert] and Morgan, and the other night it’s me, Brooks & Dunn and Morgan. I’m going to have those songs that are faith-based.”

Wilson, who joined Jelly Roll last year to sing “Save Me,” acknowledges that faith-based songs in country music are nothing new for the genre, which is why she plans on singing songs about her own beliefs.

“I think God is in country music, so I don’t think it’s going to be anything out of the ordinary for these people at the concert,” Wilosn says. “But it will be a whole gospel presentation, which I’m just so excited to get that opportunity. Because even if one person in the crowd comes to know Christ that day, that’s worth all of it for me.”

When Wilson is finished, she will likely be sidestage, taking notes from Wallen’s performance.

“He’s a talent that we will talk about for many, many, many years to come,” Wilson predicts.

Wilson also has new music to perform. She just released “God Story,” a new song from her next album, the follow-up to Rebel, out in 2023.

“I wrote it a few months ago,” Wilson tells Everything Nash. “I was on a tour called Winter Jam, and I was on that tour for a while. I was really reflecting on the last eight years of my life as a whole. The last four being in music, and back to when my brother passed eight years ago. Really just reflecting on the story that God has written in my life. I think that there’s something really special about getting on the other side of pain, and being able to look back and see that God used it for my good, and for the greater good of the kingdom.

“This song came about, and it felt like almost an invitation to people listening,” she adds. “Letting everyone have this moment to look at their own life, and see how God is working in their life, and in the story that he’s writing in their life. I’m so excited about it.”
