Austin Brown Explains 'AGT' Song Choice, Praises the Remaining Contestants

Austin Brown is speaking out about his time on America’s Got Talent, ahead of the season finale. Brown famously auditioned for the show, receiving only two yeses the first time. He later returned and impressed all four judges, including Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel, who had previously given him a no. Brown made it to the next round, where he sang an original song called “Whiskey,” and was eliminated.

At the time, Brown assured fans he was still going to be releasing music. He is now addressing the questions that have come after his elimination.

“People keep asking me, ‘Why didn’t you sing ‘Hers Ain’t Mine’ on America’s Got Talent?'” Brown says in a video shared on social media. “Or, ‘Why didn’t you sing ‘Happy Wife, Happy Life’?’ I didn’t get to choose what I sang. That said, I do think the producers really thought – I think they loved what I was doing. And I think they thought that Simon and Howie both would love what I was doing. Certainly, Mel B and Sophia did.

“That said, it just didn’t work out that way,” he adds. “That’s how the cookie crumbles sometimes. I’m really proud of what we did there. And we made some incredible, lifelong friends. We’re definitely going to be watching.”

Brown also encourages people to continue to watch the AGT finale this week, praising the people who remain on the show.

“These are some of the best people I’ve met in the music industry,” Brown boasts. “And I’m just so excited to see the future, to see where we all go, and to work together, because those people are genuinely — I’ve been in this industry for over ten years now, I love those people. I’m so surprised by how much respect I felt for all those folks, and just how much talent they each have.”

What Austin Brown Said After Being Eliminated From ‘America’s Got Talent’

After Brown was eliminated, he left a heartfelt message to his fans, promising he was still moving full-speed ahead with his solo career.

“Put my all into this performance and no matter what I’m dang proud of it!” Brown writes on social media. “Thank you to all who took time out of their busy lives to watch me on AGT! And if you just found me, don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere.”

Brown left Home Free last year to pursue a solo career. He may not have been able to continue competing on AGT, but he is still grateful for the experience, and the exposure it gave him and his music.

“Having this opportunity, there’s nothing better,” Brown tells Everything Nash. “I was just looking at the stats and stuff. It’s literally the No. 1 talent show out there. There’s no comparison.

“And so, it gives me the opportunity to fulfill my dreams,” he adds. “To maybe one day be a member of the Grand Ole Opry, and to win CMA awards, and make it on the country radio. This is a step in that direction. And I’m just looking forward to every step that comes after it.”
