Brett Young and his wife, Taylor, had a big wedding ceremony on November 3, 2018. It was only a few years later that Brett revealed that he and Taylor actually had a private ceremony earlier that year, on August 10. In honor of their upcoming seventh anniversary, Brett reveals the sweet way he proposed to his now-wife.
“On Valentine’s Day weekend, actually. I tried to play it off on her, because Valentine’s Day was on a Wednesday,” Brett recalls. “I was playing the Mississippi rodeo on Wednesday, and I was like, ‘Well, babe, since we’re at like a rodeo, would you mind if we celebrated Valentine’s Day this weekend because we’ll be in Oxford, Mississippi, which is where I went to school at Ole Miss. And we can get a nice dinner and the whole thing?’ And she totally thought I was blowing off Valentine’s Day, which was great, because she got mad at me.
“And then she got proposed to that following Sunday, a few days later at the Graduate Hotel, right there in Oxford,” he adds. “And they set up a really cool kind of rose petals leading to a sweetheart table with a bottle of champagne.”
When Did Brett Young Start Dating Taylor
Brett became smitten by Taylor after seeing a photo of Taylor early in the Facebook years, when she was a student at Arizona State University.
“It was early Facebook years, and I saw a picture on her roommate’s page with her in it,” Young tells People. “I finally was able to finagle a group hang and it was pretty platonic.”
Sparks eventually flew, with Taylor even moving to California to be with Brett after she graduated from college. But after six years together, the couple split up for two years, a painful time that the singer now sees as a blessing in disguise.
“It was one of those things where we needed to be apart to grow up before we could come back together,” Young says.

How Did Brett Young and Taylor Get Back Together
The two might have stayed apart, if not for Taylor hearing her future husband on the radio, when she was in her car.
“I didn’t even look down at my radio to see Brett Young and his name,” she tells People. “I instantly heard his voice, and I pulled over to the side of the road and felt like I was hyperventilating.
“It was really hard because it brought up a lot of emotion, but I was also so proud of him,” she adds.
Taylor reached out to Brett after hearing him on the radio, and the rest is history.
“We hadn’t spoken in two years,” Young remembers. “And when we started talking again, we realized pretty quickly that all the love was still there and that we both still had feelings. And so, the conversation was very clear-cut. It was basically, ‘I’m not interested in dating you again. If we’re getting back together, we’re getting married, we’re starting a family, we’re committing to the whole thing.’ So, it was like no beating around the bush. And I think both of us needed that because before that, we had been together for a little over six years. ”

Brett and Taylor now have two daughters, five-year-old Presley and Rowan, who is four. Brett and Taylor initially planned on having more children, but realized after the birth of Rown that their family felt complete.
“My wife and I both came into the marriage wanting four kids,” Brett tells The Tennessean. “When we brought Rowan home from the hospital, I felt like the four of us were a complete unit. I was nervous to bring that up to [Taylor], but when I did she was like, ‘I’ve been thinking the same thing.'”
Young also quit drinking, so he could be the best version of himself for Taylor and their young girls.
