Brett Young is pretty much as cool as they come right now, but that wasn’t always the case. The 44-year-old recalls the costume he wore over and over again for Halloween, even when it was well past its prime.
“I can say this about myself: I was a very nerdy little boy,” the 44-year-old tells his record label. “I was obsessed with Superman. And I would not let it go for, I mean, 15 years probably. To the point where I made my mom make me a new Superman costume three Halloweens in a row. The whole tights, sprayed black into my hair, the curl, the whole thing.
“There’s no way that there was another costume ever that will top the Superman costumes that my mom made me in that three-year stretch where I couldn’t get that one out of my head,” he adds.
Brett Young’s New ‘2.0’ Album
Young has certainly left his nerdy ways behind. He just released 2.0, Young’s fifth studio album, co-writing all 11 tracks.
“It’s more about the songwriting again, and I dig this,” Young says. “I didn’t get my chance at this before. The creative side of me gets excited about this. For people that are going, ‘There’s some songs that sound a little different,’ that’s not me trying to recreate me. That’s me being excited to stretch myself creatively.”
The father of two says 2.0 is also an accurate portrayal of his life right now, while also looking back on his almost ten years in country music.
“2.0 is a reflection of where I’m at right now as a husband, a dad, and someone who’s still learning and growing,” Young says. “These songs get into the highs and lows of love, the weight of heartbreak, and the responsibility and joy that come with family. It’s not just a follow-up to what I’ve done before. It’s a step forward. I hope people hear pieces of their own story in these songs, the way I see mine in them.”

Brett Young’s “Drink With You” Single
Young is back at radio with “Drink With You,” a song he wrote with Jesse Frasure, Tony Lucca, and Emily Weisband. The song says in part, “Girl, I know the way this goes down / You slide on closer after every round / Won’t be long before the truth comes out / We get to buzzing, our lips get to touching / With the whiskey and the way you tease / You’ll end up waking up next to me / And if that ain’t something you wanna do / I just can’t drink with you.”
“Drink With You” is a song Young has loved for a long time, even though he no longer drinks, at all.
“There’s been a lot of changes in my life in terms of health and wellness and fitness over the last 18, 19 months that kind of have turned into this new 2.0 version of myself,” Young tells Muscle & Fitness. “Having young children at home, and starting to get older, you start to realize—with so much more knowledge about what is good and bad for you these days. I did a deep dive into how to become the best version of myself possible. That meant longevity and being around for my kids as long as possible.”
