Carrie Underwood is back for another season of Sunday Night Football on NBC. The season kicked off on Sunday, September 7, with the Buffalo Bills against the Baltimore Ravens. For Underwood, she is glad to be back for a gig that started for her in 2013.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been 13 years … It’s just very glam,” Underwood says. “It’s always great, it’s always exciting, it’s always fun.”

The mother of two has plenty of her own hits to sing. Still, she says it’s the theme for Sunday Night Football that fans seem to gravitate towards, sometimes more than her other songs.

“The fans will come up to me on the street, and they’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, I love Sunday Night Football. That’s my son’s favorite song.'”

Underwood is especially excited to be part of Sunday Night Football, since the Super Bowl will air at the end of this season on NBC.

“The Super Bowl’s coming home to NBC. It’s spectacular. It’s exciting,” she says.

The Challenges Carrie Underwood Faced With the ‘Sunday Night Football’ Theme

Underwood is grateful to be able to sing the Sunday Night Football theme song for another year. Still, she admits there are some challenges with it as well, especially because she has been doing it for so long.

“I feel like that’s one of our biggest challenges in doing this Sunday Night Football open. What can we do that we haven’t done?” Underwood admits to Access Hollywood. “This is year 13. What silhouette? What color? What are the nuances that we can kind of play around with? But we always manage to keep it fresh.”

Underwood reveals that they also try to choose color themes that do not align her or the franchise with any one NFL team.

“This year I’ve got this lovely blue-black ensemble on. And also, we don’t want to rep a team too much … We try to be neutral, but also different,” she shares.

Carrie Underwood Returns to ‘American Idol’

Underwood recently announced she is returning for another season of American Idol, serving as a judge alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. Underwood served her inaugural season as a judge last year, 20 years after she was also a contestant, winning Season 4 in 2005.

“I owe my career to American Idol,” Underwood told People after her first season as a judge. “It has been such an important part of my life, and I will always be grateful for that. Coming back as a judge 20 years later is such a special full-circle moment for me, and it’s meant a lot to share that journey with the people that have been there from the beginning, as well as a whole new generation of Idol fans.”

Carrie Underwood Hits No. 1 With Cody Johnson

Underwood recently had another chart-topping single with “I’m Gonna Love You,” her duet with Cody Johnson. Underwood praised Johnson and the three songwriters, at a No. 1 party celebrating the song’s success.

“There’s so much about the music business, so many things that are unsure,” she says. “You write a song that you think is incredible, and then you might not ever hear it again, or it might not find a home, until it does. No matter what happens, God knows what He’s doing. And I feel very blessed and honored today to have played a small part in your journeys, and the song’s journey, and all the hands that have touched it. It’s very beautiful.”

Underwood is reportedly working on new music.
