Chris Young Recalls Recording 'Tin Roof,' Says He 'Just Can't Wait' For Fans To Hear the Album

Chris Young is only a couple of months away from the release of his I Didn’t Come Here To Leave album, his first on Black River Entertainment. Included on the record, out on October 17, is a song called “Tin Roof,” which is written by Ty Graham, Adam Wood and  Trenton Michael Fisher, one of the three on the new project that Young didn’t write. Still, the Tennessee native hints it might be one of his favorites on his next set of tunes.

Young shares a clip on social media of the day he recorded “Tin Roof.”

“Getting to work with my buddy, Andy,” Young says, referring to his co-producer, Andy Sheridan. “We are co-producing this whole thing together … I just can’t wait for you guys to hear the rest of this stuff. Thank you for so much love on ‘‘Til the Last One Dies.’ We are cutting one of his songs, and it’s called ‘Tin Roof.'”

Chris Young’s ‘I Didn’t Come Here To Leave’ Album

Young has a Top 40 hit with “‘Til The Last One Dies.” He’s also released a few other songs from the record, including the pure country “Jesus, Momma, Country Radio,” and “Just Keep Living,” written about his father.

“It’s basically really about what my dad has gone through in his life,” Young shares on the In The Blind podcast. “He’s had two heart attacks, the same heart attack both times. I’m like, ‘Can you pick something else? Like, stub your toe on the coffee table. Don’t do that.’ He had two widowmaker heart attacks that he survived. He got lung cancer and beat that. They cut a third of one of his lungs out. He just went, ‘All right.’”

The Story Behind “‘Til The Last One Dies”

Young’s first single from I Didn’t Come Here To Leave is “‘Til The Last One Dies.” Written by Ben Hayslip, Seth Mosley, and Jordan Walker, Young knew as soon as he heard it that he wanted it on his album, even if he didn’t write it.

“I had a friend pitch me the song,” Young tells iHeart. “This is one of the few that’s on the record that I was not a co-writer on, but got a chance to sing it and produce it with my buddy, Andy [Sheridan]. I think if I was going to say why I was drawn to this song, not only is it a very new way to say ‘I love you’ to somebody in song form,. My favorite line is the line leading up to the hook, saying that he bought  ‘A dozen roses …11 real ones, one fake one, and I’ll love you ’til the last one dies.’”
