Chris Young’s New Label Home
I Didn’t Come Here To Leave is Young’s first album on Black River Entertainment. Previously, Young had been on RCA Nashville since 2006, when his debut album came out. When Young left RCA Nashville, he planned on meeting with several different labels, but immediately felt at home at Black River.
“I had the chance to be a free agent. I felt sort of like an athlete a little bit,” Young says. “I was prepared to take all these [label] meetings, and I went in and [Black River Records] were the first meeting. By the end of that meeting, I told them, ‘I want to be here.’”
The Story Behind Chris Young’s “‘Til The Last One Dies” Single
Young knew he wanted to record “‘Til The Last One Dies,” even though he didn’t write it.
“I haven’t really done a true wedding-style love song for many, many years, surprisingly,” Young tells Audacy.“I’ve had some ballads out there, but not one that has this kind of impact. And I just got in the studio, and it just came to life. So it was a really, really easy process once we found this song.”
Young also said the song was a bit of a new direction for him, which is why he wanted to include it on the record.
“I just think it’s an absolutely beautiful song,” Young tells Country 102.5. “And I think for me, it’s been a while since I’ve put out a true ballad love song. I went back and looked through the last several singles, and had a lot of success with. They’re all tempo, or even if they were a ballad, they were a really serious, sad topic. This was something I hadn’t given everybody in a while, and I love the song.”
When Will Chris Young’s I Didn’t Come Here To Leave Album Be Released
Young’s I Didn’t Come Here To Leave will be out on October 17. The date is also the eighth anniversary of Young becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
What Else Chris Young Has Said About I Didn’t Come Here To Leave
When announcing his new album, the Tennessee native said there is something for everyone on the project.
“On a record, a lot gets made of how many tempos and how many ballads, as opposed to just making a record from top to bottom that you’ve fallen in love with – but that’s all I’ve ever tried to do,” Young explains. “I look at this album and there are songs that make you want to buy a beer, and there’s songs that if you broke up with somebody, you’re going to want to cry. For different reasons, I feel like this is a complete album – and it would be a disservice to Black River if I didn’t turn in something I believed in this way.”
