Chris Young‘s current “‘Til the Last One Dies” single will forever be a part of one couple’s story. Young shares a video on social media of a couple dancing to the song on stage, captioning the video by saying, “Congrats to the happy couple! Loved being a part of your special engagement moment.”

Young hinted that the song would likely be used for a lot of weddings, which is part of the reason he released it. The song is the debut single from his forthcoming new album, his first on Black River Entertainment.

“The creative process for ‘Til The Last One Dies’ was interesting because, I didn’t write this song,” Young tells Audacy. “It’s one of the few on the record that I didn’t have a hand in writing. And just really fell in love with it.”

“I haven’t really done a true wedding-style love song for many, many years, surprisingly,” he adds. “I’ve had some ballads out there, but not one that has this kind of impact. And I just got in the studio and it just came to life. So it was a really, really easy process once we found this song.”

Young may not have written “‘Til the Last One Dies,” but he knew as soon as he heard it that the song was a big, big hit.

“I had a friend pitch me the song,” Young tells iHeart. “This is one of the few that’s on the record that I was not a co-writer on, but got a chance to sing it and produce it with my buddy, Andy [Sheridan]. I think if I was going to say why I was drawn to this song, not only is it a very new way to say ‘I love you’ to somebody in song form. My favorite line is the line leading up to the hook, saying that he bought  ‘A dozen roses …11 real ones, one fake one, and I’ll love you ’til the last one dies.’”

“It is a straight down the middle love song that I fell in love with the very first time I heard it,” he adds. “It’s one of the few on the record that I did not take part in writing, but I wish that I had written this idea. It’s just an incredible song.”

The writer behind several of his own hits, the Tennessee native had no problem releasing a song that was written by someone else, especially one like “‘Til the Last One Dies.”

“I just think it’s an absolutely beautiful song,” Young tells Country 102.5.  “And I think for me, it’s been a while since I’ve put out a true ballad love song. I went back and looked through the last several singles, and had a lot of success with. They’re all tempo, or even if they were a ballad, they were a really serious, sad topic. This  was something I hadn’t given everybody in a while, and I love the song.”
