Congratulations to Cody Johnson and his wife, Brandi! The couple are expecting their third child, and first son.
“We’re having a little boy!” Johnson tells People. “We decided to make this our announcement to the world and our gender reveal as well.”
Johnson loves being a girl dad, but admits he is looking forward to having a son.
“My girls .. you can’t beat my girls,” Johnson gushes. “I love my two girls with all my heart. They’re ten and 8, Clara and Cori, and I think I’m excited to watch them help raise this little boy.”
Johnson’s career is at an all-time high, which means his son will have a different beginning than his two daughters, thanks to his recent success.
“[I’m] a lot better off now as far as career and financially, than I was when we had [my daughters]… He’s gonna get a horse a little quicker than my kids did,” Johnson says. “He’s going to get to do some things a little quicker than my daughters did.”
Johnson recently said he wasn’t sure he wanted his daughters to follow in his footsteps, in spite of their natural talent.

“If you ask them, they want to be a country singer, which I’ve told them, don’t do,” Johnson reveals. “It’s like, you think it’s easy because you ride around on private jets and buses and stuff with Dad, and we have these expensive trips and all this stuff. And it really looks really good on paper, but I was like,’ You guys weren’t around for all the hard work, like the real hard work. Like looking at a McDonald’s and not being able to go in and buy food. Literally starving for country music.’”
“I’ve tried, to talk them out of country music, but the problem is they both sing really damn good,” he continues. “I haven’t told them that yet though. I’m keeping that a little secret. Brandi’s like, ‘You know, they’ve got it right? Like, whatever you have, they’ve got it.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, but don’t tell them. Don’t tell them till they’re older. Let them make their own decisions.’”
Johnson is back at radio with “The Fall,” from his Leather Deluxe Edition.
“’The Fall’ is one of those songs that I feel like should be on a movie soundtrack,” Johnson says. “It should be on a movie soundtrack because it paints that picture of — you can see the struggle to get to the success. And I think for me, I picture guys like Michael Jordan. You see all the work and all the tired and the angry and the tears and the blood, and you get to the successful moment. And you can even apply that to relationships too, but it has that that overall movie quality about it.”
