David Phelps Talks His Annual Christmas Barn Bash and Upcoming Holiday Tour

David Phelps loves the holidays, and all the celebration that comes with it. It’s what inspires him to continue hosting his annual Christmas Barn Bash, at his home in Culleoka, Tennessee, about 60 miles outside of Nashville. Phelps will celebrate the tenth anniversary of his Christmas Barn Bash, taking place this weekend, November 28 to 30. In addition to live music, the Christmas Barn Bash also includes a live nativity, Santa Claus, and more.

“It is at our farm,” Phelps tells Everything Nash. “We live on an old dairy. The barn had horses and cows, chickens, all that stuff in it. We were trying to find a place to do a video about 15 years ago, I guess. And we converted it for that into a place that was suitable for that. And then we were like, ‘It’s almost there. Let’s just keep going and make a venue.’”

By his own admission, Phelps was reluctant at first to host such a massive event on his own property. But both Phelps’s manager and his wife, Lori, convinced him he already had the perfect spot. It’s now become one of his favorite events of the year

“It has become a really spiritual kind of thing for everybody coming in, like a big family reunion. It just is something people look forward to every year. And we have new people every year. People fly in from Australia, Europe, England. It’s just amazing how much people have just really grabbed a hold of it and fallen in love with it.”

David Phelps’ One Wintry Night Tour

Phelps will spend much of December on his One Wintry Night Tour. More than just a holiday concert, Phelps brings his own personal touch to each of his shows.

“I like to tell a story,” says the singer. “And I love weaving these songs in and out, so that they make sense. Some of them are little pieces of the story. Some of them encapsulate what it means for some people. ‘O Holy Night’ is just a really, really special song for a lot of people, and has been for generations. And so, to kind of weave that into telling the full story of Jesus and what He did for us, and that we remember this time of year. And that, for us, it really is a time of new beginnings.

“I know New Year’s is right around the corner,” he continues. “But we get ready for it at Christmastime because that’s what I feel like Christmas is about. It’s about new beginnings, and the hope of a better future. We love it. And the Christmas songs, we have new ones and old ones, and we kind of weave them all together.”
