Talent runs in the family, at least for Rascal Flatts‘ Jay DeMarcus ‘ Dylan DeMarcus, son of the singer and multi-instrumentalist, just released his own stunning cover of “Bless the Broken Road.” The song, released by the group in 2004, remains one of the most successful singles of their career.
It’s Rascal Flatts’ Gary LeVox who first posted a video of Dylan singing the song. Fueled by the fan reaction, Jay encouraged his son to record and release his own version, which is available now.
“Dylan and I had already begun working on some music for him to release when the time was right,” the proud father says. “The timing became right after the huge reaction from a couple of posts that Gary was kind enough to showcase on his own platforms. We went into the studio last Saturday and rushed to finish this first release. I couldn’t be more proud of my son obviously, but to watch his growth in musicality, and see his passion for it continue to grow over the last couple of years, has been astounding. He has all of the things you can’t teach.”

Jay DeMarcus Looks Back On His Extraordinary Career
Jay is still amazed at how his life and career turned out. Formerly part of the Christian duo East to West, Jay later formed Rascal Flatts with Gary, who is his cousin, plus Joe Don Rooney.
“The fact that I’ve been able to do something that I love so much for a living has been one of the greatest things you could ever hope for,” Jay says. “Aside from my marriage and the birth of my children, it’s the most important thing that I’ve been a part of the entire time practically that I’ve been an adult. And the impact it’s had on my family; we’ve been very, very blessed because of what we’ve been able to do.
“I also realize how fortunate we are because it doesn’t happen to everybody,” he continues. “Everybody that has the dream of making it in music doesn’t necessarily get to live it out to the degree that we have had. And I’m just grateful for it every day. I try to always take a few moments and thank God for the platform, the career that he has given us, and that I’ve been able to do it with people that mean so much to me.”
Jay DeMarcus Looks Ahead With Rascal Flatts
Rascal Flatts thought their time as a trio was ending in 2020, announcing their farewell tour, which didn’t happen because of hte pandemic. One year later, Joe Don was in a car accident, caused by his intoxication. The crash became the wake-up call he needed, getting sober, and emerging as a better, healthier version of himself.
In 2025, Rascal Flatts released Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets. They also embarked on their Life Is A Highway Tour, which is continuing into 2026. They currently have a Top 15 single with “I Dare You,” a collaboration with the Jonas Brothers. And now, the sky is the limit for Rascal Flatts.
“We’ve been blessed to do so many albums with so many different types of songs, and covered so many different things from R&B feels to hardcore country feels to pushing the rock edge a little bit,” Jay remarks. “For me, I now look for something that jumps out at me as being unique, whether it’s a lyric or a melody.
“The bar’s been set so high it’s very, very hard to find something now that jumps out at you,” he adds. “And I think it’s safe to say for all of us, it’s a difficult thing to find that song or a group of songs that’s different enough that makes you want to go in the studio and put the time into cutting.”
Rascal Flatt’s Life Is A Highway Tour kicks off on January 15, joined by Lauren Alaina and Chris Lane.
