Ella Langley Opens Up About Her Faith: 'God Has Been Nothing But Good to Me'

Ella Langley is a person of great faith. The 26-year-old opened up about her spiritual beliefs, during her recent performance at CMA Fest, reflecting on the highs and lows that got her to where she is today.

“I grew up in a Southern Baptist church,” an emotional Langley says. “And we started off every sermon by saying,  ‘God is good. And all the time, God is good.’ God has been nothing but good to me. Nothing but good to me. And every time I thought, ‘Why? Why this? Why them? Why not me? Why didn’t this work out? This job that I wanted, this show that I wanted. This person that I wanted. Why didn’t that work out for me?’ And I spent so long fighting that. I think I spend every day trying not to fight that still … Hindisght is 20/20.  And God has a plan.”

“Sometimes you just have to sit in the hurt. Sometimes you have to sit in it, and accept it. So this is that song for me,” she continued, before launching into “Girl You’re Taking Home,” from her Still Hungover record.

@bonitawallace8 @Ella Langley counting her blessings at CMA Fest tonight and performing “Girl You’re Taking Home”. This is my favorite off an incredible album and reminds us even if we want something really bad it isn’t always meant for us even if it hurts🖤 #ellalangley #girlyouretakinghome #nashville #nashvilletn #countrymusic #countrygirl #country ♬ original sound – Bonita

Langley has certainly had plenty of good things happen to her. At the recent ACM Awards, Langley was the biggest winner of the night, with five trophies. She was also just named Billboard‘s Rising Star, an award given to her by her good friend, Lainey Wilson. But in spite of all of her recent successes, Langley admits the highs have also brought some incredible lows for her as well.

“I won’t lie, this last week has been probably one of the toughest mental health weeks I’ve had in a long time,” Langley told Audacy, shortly after the ACM Awards. “Which is crazy because so many good things are happening, so many things I’ve prayed for, and dreamed about. It’s just a struggle. It’s just the disease of my family, really.”

“I think it’s important to talk about it and to share that just because I might seem like on the top of the mountain right now, it doesn’t look like that all the time,” she continued. “Also, it’s okay to be two things. I was just actually talking to Lainey and Miranda [Lambert] about this and my impostor syndrome, like ‘What do you mean? How can I be in the same category as you two? That doesn’t make sense to me.’ I think it’s just about being grateful.”

Langley is also working on a new album, one she is eager to share with her fans.

“It’s unlike anything I’ve put out, and it’s the most me I’ve ever felt on a record … There will be things this year with collaborations that will appease the fans,” Langley tells Billboard.
