Jason Aldean‘s first duet with his wife, Brittany, is out! The two just released “Easier Gone,” from his forthcoming Songs About Us record, out on April 24. Lady A’s Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood wrote the song with Josh Kerr and Jimmy Robbins.
Jason and Brittany have been married since 2015, but didn’t have the right song to do together, until now.
“Britt and I have been wanting to do something together for a while, but it’s like with anything, I just think it has to be the right song,” Jason tells Nashville Lifestyles. “It has to be the right timing.”
It wasn’t until Jason was in the studio that he asked Brittany to sing on “Easier Gone” with him.
“She started to get nervous and sweaty,” Jason recalls. “It was weird because she’s never been to the studio or tried to cut a record or anything like that. The first day was her learning how it all goes. Then she went back in, knew what to expect, and just killed it.”
Jason Aldean’s ‘Songs About Us’ Album
Jason also just released “Her Favorite Color” and “What’s A Little Heartache” from Songs About Us. The record also includes “Help You Remember,” a song inspired by both his uncle and his father-in-law’s battle with dementia, plus “Hard To Love You,” “Lovin’ Me Too Long,” and his current Top 10 single, “How Far Does A Goodbye Go.” Brittany stars in the “How Far Does A Goodbye Go” video.
Songs About Us is Jason’s 12th studio album, and perhaps his most personal yet.
“They’re all on there for a reason,” Jason tells Nashville Lifestyles. “You need tempos, you need ballads, you need different things. But everything on this record was put there intentionally.”
When announcing Songs About Us, the father of four said he put a lot of thought into each and every song on the record.
“It means the world when one of my songs helps someone through a hard time—or celebrates their best moments,” Jason said when announcing the record. “This album is about all of that—the highs, the lows, and everything in between. Every track started with a real story or feeling, and together we turned those experiences into music. In the end, I realized this album is about all of us. These are songs about us.”
The Lyrics to Jason Aldean’s “Easier Gone” Duet With Brittany
I wish I didn’t know your name
Wish you were just another stranger
So you walkin’ in this bar wouldn’t put my broken heart
In danger
I wish I didn’t know your drink
Was the one that he just bought you
Everything I tried forgetting came rushing back the second
I saw you
You were easier gone
You were easier outta this town
Hey, I almost had this letting you go thing figured out
Yeah, it was easy to lie
To myself on a Friday night
When I wasn’t face-to-face with how good you look moving on
Yeah, you were easier gone
Why’d you have to turn that car around?
Why’d you have to come and crash my party?
Throwing happy in my face, smiling like you ain’t
Even sorry
Safer as a memory, better on the run
Your eyes were cutting through me, messing me back up
Baby, would it kill you to go back wherever you came from?
