Keith Urban Drops Live Version of 'Straight Line' [LISTEN]

Keith Urban has dropped another live song from his forthcoming live album. Urban just dropped a live version of “Straight Line.” Urban performs the song, from his latest HIGH record, on his current High and Alive World Tour.

Urban has yet to announce a title or release date for his live album. He previously dropped “Long Hot Summer,” as the first song from his next record.

“If you’ve seen us on tour, you already know the guitar solo’s really putting the ‘long’ in ‘Long Hot Summer,” Urban said when the new live version was released. “Thank you in advance for entertaining a nearly 7-minute version of a 4:33 song!”

The Story Behind Keith Urban’s “Straight Line”

Urban first released “Straight Line” in early 2024. The song is the first release from HIGH. Urban penned the song with Chase McGill, Greg Wells and his former band member, Jerry Flowers.

“‘Straight Line’ was just one of those songs that, it happened from a feeling in the studio, playing, and that melody coming and the lyric coming,” Urban says. “The song just sort of grew. It just grew really quickly. There are two songs that are on this album that came from two days of writing with three of my buddies that I love writing with, and ‘Straight Line’ was the second of the two songs we wrote.”

Even before embarking on his High and Alive World Tour, Urban hinted that he was eager to play “Straight Line” live.

“I just loved the spirit of it,” Urban shares. “I think if anybody has seen us play live, this song for me captures a lot of that feeling of what I’m trying to create in the room that we’re playing in, the feeling I want people to have. I felt like ‘Straight Line’ has that feeling about it, and it seemed like a perfect first song.”

Keith Urban’s Goal While On Tour

Urban’s tour, which wraps up in October, has been in many ways a thank-you to his fans. It’s his fans who inspire him to give the best show that he can, night after night.

“First of all, without the audience, it’s just one long sound check,” Urban says. “So the audience is everything, everything. I was thinking the other day, there’s a line in a Jackson Browne song called ‘The Load Out,’ where he talks about the audience. He goes, ‘People, you’ve got the power over what we do. You can sit there and wait or you can pull us through.’ The audience has so much power to make or break a show. We as a performer can only do so much.

“I’ve watched our audience night after night after night just give so much to me on stage,” he adds. “And when that happens, you can just play forever. If we didn’t have curfews, we’d play way longer.”
