Kenny Chesney is sharing more insight into his HEART*LIFE*MUSIC book, out on November 4. Chesney at one time never imagined writing his life story. But as he did, as a way to give people an insider look at his life and career, Chesney found himself enjoying the reflection.
“If you’re living in fast forward, you don’t really stop to think about how this all fits together,” the 57-year-old says. “I’m someone who wants to find the next dream, the great song, the chance to maybe change how we do this… so looking back is mostly for when I’m writing songs. Over the course of countless days, talking or reading what was there, I was amazed at how that little kid staring at the sky, the one being blown away by the response Conway Twitty got with two words or how Alabama made me feel coming in on a helicopter in a field was able to do some of the things we’ve done… and to be fortunate to feel the incredible passion we do.”
Chesney’s HEART*LIFE*MUSIC is also an ode to the city where his dreams came true, far beyond anything he could have dreamed for himself.
“I didn’t think I had a book in me, but the more we worked, the more I realized, this is a love letter to a Nashville that’s forgotten,” the East Tennessee native explains. “Legends who gave me wisdom along the way, friends who kept me grounded, the horrible addiction to great songs I may’ve always had, but didn’t realize. The more we worked, the more excited I got, because I realized for the next kid out there who doesn’t know how to get out of the backyard to chase their dreams, this is the treasure map.
The Reason Kenny Chesney Wrote ‘HEART*LIFE*MUSIC’
Chesney didn’t even dream when he was growing up how far his career would take him, including becoming a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame next month. Chesney hopes his story, as unlikely as it may seem, inspires others to dream big as well.
“I was, I guess, born a dreamer and a seeker, and always wondered what was past my county line,” Chesney shares on TalkShopLive. “I remember going out and lying on my back in the backyard of my grandmother’s, at my grandmother’s house. And just staring at the stars, and wondering if there was anything out there, at all.
“And one of the storylines of this book is someone that was very curious as a child, and someone that really had music in his life,” he adds. “And thought there might be something in my life that involved music, but had no idea what that meant or where it was gonna lead me.”
Chesney is heading out on a book tour in support of HEART*LIFE*MUSIC. Find more information, and pre-order the book, at KennyChesney.com.
