Why Kenny Chesney Wrote ‘HEART*LIFE*MUSIC’

It’s been 31 years since Chesney’s debut In My Wildest Dreams album was released. Now 57, Chesney has lived a lot of life, with plenty of highs and lows, stories he hopes inspire others.

“People have asked me a lot why I haven’t written a book yet and honestly, why now,” Chesney shares on TalkShopLive. “And I guess my answer to that is, it’s a pretty incredible story really. If I think about the kid that grew up in East Tennessee, I lived way out in the country. I used to go out and lay in my grandmother’s backyard. We lived so far out of Knoxville that you could look up at the stars at night and you wouldn’t see any light pollution from any city anywhere. So, it was just beautiful, and I used to go out there as a kid and lay there.”

Born and raised in East Tennessee, Chesney knew early on that he was destined for a life beyond his rural, small-town upbringing.

“I was, I guess, born a dreamer and a seeker, and always wondered what was past my county line,” Chesney says. “I remember going out and lying on my back in the backyard of my grandmother’s, at my grandmother’s house. And just staring at the stars, and wondering if there was anything out there, at all.

“And one of the storylines of this book is someone that was very curious as a child, and someone that really had music in his life,” he adds. “And thought there might be something in my life that involved music, but had no idea what that meant or where it was gonna lead me.”

Kenny Chesney’s Induction Into The Country Music Hall of Fame

Chesney has more than just his new book coming out to look forward to this year. He will also be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in October, along with June Carter Cash and Tony Brown.

“That’s just something you don’t dare to imagine,” Chesney says of the honor. “I would never have even thought about being here, because it’s almost too much. Just walking past so many of these bronzes, realizing how many are friends or whose music I’ve listened to my whole life. This is an honor that extends beyond anything my heart would dare think.”

Chesney has a Top 30 hit with “You Had To Be There,” his collaboration with Megan Moroney. Find all of his music and upcoming shows, and pre-order HEART*LIFE*MUSIC at KennyChesney.com.
