Kenny Chesney is sharing new insight into his upcoming book, HEART*LIFE*MUSIC. Out on November 4, it’s a full-circle moment for Chesney, who spent years saying he would tell his story this way.
“I always said I’d never write a book, and now here we are,” Chesney says. “And I have to admit: I’m really glad I did it. I remembered moments, connected dots and laughed a lot about some of the places I’ve been. When you’re so busy going forward, you don’t always realize. Being in the revision and copy-editing part of the process, I am so grateful and fired up for the journey.”
Chesney quietly began working on HEART*LIFE*MUSIC in 2024, waiting several months to tell his fans about the book, which he wrote with Holly Gleason.
“We have been working on this since last fall, and we’ve been so busy doing the work of bringing this book to life, neither of us has slowed down to really think about what it means,” Chesney says. “So now that we’re in the final phases of HEART*LIFE*MUSIC, it seems like a great time to not just talk about it but respond to the people’s questions about this story.”
Chesney will sit down with Gleason on TalkShopLive on Tuesday, June 24, to talk about the stories in HEART*LIFE*MUSIC, as well as share more about why he wanted to write the book.
“Now that we’re done, I wanted to talk about it,” Chesney explains. “I wanted to tell people, but even more, I wanted to know what they wanted to know or were thinking about this book. TalkShopLive gave us an opportunity to have a two-way conversation and share how genuinely excited I am.”
2025 is already a busy year for Chesney. The East Tennessee native has two more shows on his Live at Sphere Las Vegas residency, on June 20 and 21. He will also be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this fall, alongside June Carter Cash and Tony Brown.
“For me, this is beyond a dream,” Chesney says of the honor. “I keep thinking I’m gonna wake up on my couch back at [East Tennessee State University]. But standing here, this is more than real, it’s surreal. I couldn’t be more thankful or humble.”
“That’s just something you don’t dare to imagine,” he continues. “I would never have even thought about being here, because it’s almost too much. Just walking past so many of these bronzes, realizing how many are friends or whose music I’ve listened to my whole life, this is an honor that extends beyond anything my heart would dare think.”
When Chesney’s induction was announced, the 57-year-old credited his country music heroes before him for making his biggest dream come true.
“I’ve always felt that country music told a lot of truth,” Chesney said at the time. “It also is fueled by a lot of dreams. And I had a really big dream that not a lot of people saw coming. And I can promise you, I did not see this coming. But my dream was built, my dream started on the shoulders of the dreams of George Jones. It was built on the shoulders of Randy, Teddy, Jeff and Mark, the group Alabama and Conway Twitty and Doc Watson …I had a really big dream.
“And I’m still pushing that dream, as far as I can,” he added. “I just wanted to record and write songs that reflected the lives of a lot of people that came to our shows. I just wanted to spread as much positive energy and love as I possibly could. Standing up here, I know it’s not a dream. It’s real, and it feels surreal.”
