Lainey Wilson Drops New Sing

A new single is out by Lainey Wilson! After teasing a new song on social media for several days, the Grand Ole Opry member drops “Somewhere Over Laredo.” The song is from a forthcoming new album, Whirlwind Deluxe, out on August 22.

Wilson penned the song with Trannie Anderson, Dallas Wilson and Andy Albert, as an ode to the classic “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”

“When I’m flying between shows I catch myself looking out the window, talking to God, dreaming, or even reminiscing,” Wilson explains. “’Somewhere Over Laredo’ tells a story that speaks to that. I’ve always been inspired by putting myself into other people’s shoes and telling stories from others’ perspective, but I’ve found a new creative avenue with this one putting myself back into a pair of shoes that I wore years ago.”

“Somewhere Over Laredo” isn’t the only song Wilson has out right now. The Louisiana native joins Reba McEntire and Miranda Lambert on “Trailblazer.” The three debuted the song, which Wilson and Lambert wrote with Brandy Clark, at the 2025 ACM Awards.

“We were just having a conversation about how both [Lambert and McEntire] have influenced me and [about] passing the torch and blazing trails for each other,” Wilson recalls to Billboard. “Generation after generation, it’s going to continue, but we got to keep blazing those trails for the next one.”

Although “Trailblazer” was written about country music pioneers, it was important to Wilson to make sure the song’s message expanded more beyond one genre.

“I remember thinking that this could be a song that a grandmother and a daughter and a grandchild could listen to,” Wilson explains. “And not just about the history of country music… If we’re not thinking about the people that we’re singing to, then they’re not going to be able to relate.”

Wilson won four ACM Awards at the recent ceremony, including the night’s highest honor, Entertainer of the Year. Still, the 33-year-old says her biggest accomplishment in her career so far is another trophy she won, ahead of the live ceremony: Artist-Songwriter of the Year.

“When I found out about the Artist-Songwriter, that was one of my biggest accomplishments,” Wilson reveals to CMT. “Because I take pride in writing music. I wrote my first song at nine years old, and I would say that I’m a storyteller before anything. So that one right there … and of course, everything else too. Don’t make me choose.”

Wilson has a lot to look forward to besides more music. She is headlining her Whirlwind World Tour, while also planning her wedding to Devlin “Duck” Hodges.

“I think it’s going to be small,” Wilson divulges to Audacy, speaking of her nuptials. “We haven’t talked about this much. This is as much planning as we have done. We have said everything else is a big old to-do. We just want this to be about what it’s supposed to be about, and have our friends and family there and just really enjoy that moment.”

“I definitely, probably will have like a jazz band from New Orleans, something like that,” she adds. “We’ll definitely, probably ride off on horses, or ride in on a horse, maybe in on a carriage, off on a horse.”
