Lainey Wilson Gives a Timeline For Her Wedding to Devlin 'Duck' Hodges

Lainey Wilson is happily engaged to Devlin “Duck” Hodges, but the ceremony might have to wait a while. The couple dated for four years before Hodges popped the question in February. And now, Wilson says he will have to use the same patience she had waiting for him to propose, before she officially becomes his wife.

“[Duck] is gonna kill me, but I told I’m gonna make him wait,” Wilson tells Country Living. “He made me wait for four years. I’m gonna make him wait before we start planning this thing. We hadn’t really covered any ground on it just yet. But we’re taking our time, and it’s gonna be right and it’s gonna be beautiful and what it’s supposed to be about.”

Wilson has other things to keep her occupied besides wedding plans. In addition to her Whirlwind World Tour, Wilson is also filming her first movie role, for Reminders of Him, an adaptation of the Colleen Hoover book.

“After Yellowstone, after I played a musician role, I told my manager, ‘The next thing I want to do is something where I step outside of that,’” Wilson says. “And this was the first opportunity that had presented itself to us, and that felt great. For the very first time, I’m playing a character that’s not a musician. It’s cool for me to be able to step into other people’s shoes and write from their perspective, so this gave me an opportunity to step into a pair of shoes and act from a different point of view.

“It was fun,” she adds. “It just gave me a creative outlet, and I really enjoyed it. We’ll see what else happens, but I can see myself doing more of it for sure.”

When Wilson and Hodges do tie the knot, the Grand Ole Opry member hints she will do something for him that she has never, ever done before: wear a dress.

“I’m going to wear a dress,” Wilson says on The Kelleigh Bannen Show. “I hadn’t done the whole dress shopping. We haven’t even picked a date or anything like that. We got some time, but I figured, you know what? I hadn’t worn a dress for him yet, and I guess that would be the day to do it.”

The reigning CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year will also likely not have country music for her wedding, instead choosing a genre that is a nod to her Louisiana roots.

“I definitely, probably will have like a jazz band from New Orleans, something like that,” Wilson says. “We’ll definitely, probably ride off on horses, or ride in on a horse, maybe in on a carriage, off on a horse.”

Faraway friends and former acquaintances might be disappointed, since Wilson says they won’t have a large guest list.

“I think it’s going to be small,” Wilson tells Audacy. “We haven’t talked about this much. This is as much planning as we have done. We have said everything else is a big old to-do. We just want this to be about what it’s supposed to be about, and have our friends and family there and just really enjoy that moment.”
