Lainey Wilson Gives An Update On Her Next Album, After 'Whirlwind Deluxe'

Lainey Wilson is sharing new details about her next album. Wilson released Whirlwind in 2024, followed by Whirlwind Deluxe in August. But now, the Grand Ole Opry member says her next record has already been a work in progress for a while.

“Honestly, before the deluxe was even out, I was already working on the next project,” Wilson tells Audacy. “That’s kind of how I do it. Because this job comes with a lot of different parts of it, I want to make sure that I’m always keeping the writing, the songwriting, at the forefront. So no matter what, I put co-writes in there, and try to just have time where I just brainstorm and think of ideas, and think about what direction do I want to go next, what have I not said, what part of me am I discovering that I feel comfortable sharing with other people.

“A lot of soul-searching,” the “Somewhere Over Laredo” singer adds. “I feel like I’m constantly soul-searching, and digging things up. And so, it’s important for me to be writing while I’m doing that soul-searching.”

Wilson doesn’t yet have a title or a theme for her next set of tunes, but she trusts that the direction will come in time.

“I think I probably just need to keep putting pen to paper,” Wilson says. “And what normally happens is, I always just stumble upon the thing. It always seems like it’s a certain time of my life, the things that I’m learning, the things I’m trying to get better at, the things that I’m trying to hold on to, all those things. I can normally weave in a main theme.”

Lainey Wilson Reveals Her Plans For Christmas

Wilson only has one more show on her calendar for the year, taking place on December 7 in Las Vegas. After that, Wilson is ready to enjoy some downtime, after spending a lot of 2025 on the road.

“I’m gonna get some holiday breaks, some time with my family,” the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year says. “We’re going back over to Australia in February. But I really do think these next couple of months, I’m just going to focus on being creative. I’m gonna get a little time in my house. I just want to shut it down, and I think it’s important to get bored every now and then. You gotta get bored to figure out what’s next … It’s important to get bored.

Wilson might do some wedding planning over her break as well, if her fiancé, Devlin “Duck” Hodges returns from duck hunting

“I sat down this past weekend, and we started kind of trying to brainstorm, so we’ll see,” Wilson says. “I mean, we gotta get on it, but I told him, I was like, ‘You gotta come home from the woods long enough for us to plan this thing.'”
