Lainey Wilson is proud to be part of country music. The Grand Ole Opry member is part of a growing increase of popularity within the genre, with Wilson helping to lead its popularity.
“What’s happening with it right now, I don’t see that slowing down any time soon,” Wilson tells CMT. “And honestly, it kind of blows my mind to think about where it might be in ten years, but in the best kind of way. Everybody’s finding out about it. It’s like a hidden gem, and I’m proud to be a part of that. So who knows what ten years are gonna look like. I’ll keep playing and singing if they keep showing up.”
Wilson just released a new song, “Somewhere Over Laredo.” The song is from her forthcoming new Whirlwind Deluxe album.
“I’m finding out the Whirlwind never stops,” Wilson says of her new record. “The more I walk through it, the more my feet stay planted on the ground and my eyes to the sky. In honor of the one-year anniversary of Whirlwind’s release, I will be dropping my Whirlwind (Deluxe) album on August 22.”
Wihirlwind Deluxe includes all of the original songs on Whirlwind, plus five new songs. Those songs are “Somewhere Over Laredeo,” plus “King Ranch, King George, King James,” “Yesterday, All Day, Every Day,” “Bell Bottoms Up” and “Peace, Love and Cowboys.”
“Somewhere Over Laredo” is already rapidly climbing up the charts.

“When I’m flying between shows I catch myself looking out the window, talking to God, dreaming, or even reminiscing,” Wilson explains of the inspiration behind the song, which she wrote with Trannie Anderson, Dallas Wilson and Andy Albert. “’Somewhere Over Laredo’ tells a story that speaks to that.”
“I’ve always been inspired by putting myself into other people’s shoes and telling stories from others’ perspective,” she adds, “but I’ve found a new creative avenue with this one putting myself back into a pair of shoes that I wore years ago.”
In addition to new music and her Whirlwind World Tour, Wilson is also planning her wedding to Devlin “Duck” Hodges.
“I think it’s going to be small,” Wilson hints to Audacy. “We haven’t talked about this much. This is as much planning as we have done. We have said everything else is a big old to-do. We just want this to be about what it’s supposed to be about, and have our friends and family there and just really enjoy that moment.”
Perhaps surprisingly, the 33-year-old reveals she is not wearing her signature bell bottoms for her big day.
“I’m going to wear a dress,” Wilson reveals. “I hadn’t done the whole dress shopping. We haven’t even picked a date or anything like that. We got some time, but I figured, you know what? I hadn’t worn a dress for him yet, and I guess that would be the day to do it.”
Wilson’s reign in country music will likely continue for a long time. She recently won four ACM Awards including the night’s highest honor, Entertainer of the Year, Find “Somewhere Over Laredo,” pre-order Whirlwind Deluxe, and find all of Wilson’s music and upcoming shows at LaineyWilson.com.
