Lainey Wilson Opens Up About Her Sweet Friendship With Miranda Lambert

Lainey Wilson grew up admiring Miranda Lambert, and now they are close friends. Wilson was 12 years old when Lambert’s debut album, Kerosene, was released. Now, as Wilson’s own career continues to explode, it’s Lambert who is helping guide her, every step of the way.

“She’s always been that voice over here, just being like, ‘You can’t do it all. You can’t do it all,’ Wilson tells Southern Living (via People). “You gotta come home, and you gotta saddle your horse, and you gotta make sure that you’re scooping the poop on the farm, and doing all the things that make everything else worth it.’”

Not surprisingly, Wilson and Lambert have more in common than just music, including their shared “love for the Western way of life,” the “Somewhere Over Laredo” singer says.

“Also, our love for coming home and planting our feet, and filling our cups back up so we can go back out and pour ’em out,'” she adds.

How Miranda Lambert Helped Lainey Wilson Early In Her Career

Lambert joins Wilson on a song called “Good Horses” on Wilson’s 2024 Whirlwind album. The song was written while Wilson was getting some much-needed time away at Lambert’s home.

“This was also the year that I was just crazy busy. I think that year I slept in my bed 15 nights,” Wilson remembers. “And one of those times that I was here in Nashville, I remember Miranda calling me and being like… ‘I want you to come out to my farm where there’s hardly any cell phone service, and I want you to take a nap, and we’re gonna feed you.’ Cause her husband is a great cook.”

Wilson heeded her friend’s advice and visited Lambert, sleeping for 13 hours when she arrived.

“They had to go knock on the door. They’re like, ‘Is she alive?'” Wilson recalls.

What Miranda Lambert Says About Lainey Wilson

Wilson might be a fan of Lambert, but the admiration goes both ways.  Lambert recently praised Wilson for her impact in country music, writing an essay for Time magazine, after Wilson made the list of the World’s Most Influential Rising Stars.

“I’m a huge fan of Lainey Wilson,” Lambert writes. “I heard just a few songs and instantly loved what she is doing. She is such a light. She’s funny and she’s fun, and she has a spirit about her that brings joy to any room she walks in. Knowing her off the stage and on, I feel like I’m looking at the same person all the time. That’s pretty rare. What she does doesn’t define her. Who she is defines her, and that’s real authenticity.

“She lives and breathes songs, and you can see that passion in her eyes; it’s all about the music for her, and she lets the music lead,” she continues. “She’s a legend already—having taken home her first Grammy last year for Bell Bottom Country—and I’m thankful she’s a country artist. I’m really proud of how she represents the lifestyle we both love and the music we both love. She’s out of the gate going 100 miles an hour.”
